UG. Dealing with a severe case of constipation. It's been a week and a half of not "going".

I've tried:
Miralax: nothing
Ex lax for 3 days: one tiny movement on Tue.
Now have taken some Phiso soda today about 2 hours ago (1 tbsp.)...and nothing. A few gurgles and twinges here and there.
Im pretty sure I dont have any blockage since Ive dealt with this in the past (having UC for 15 years).

Im about ready to go in the other "end" so to speak with an enema.

Does anyone have any advise on what worked for them??
Please let me know!
Thanks.

Milk of Magnesia...go get some right NOW! Drink about 4 T tonight, relief will start within 6 hours. Or when you are up in the AM, you'll be going. My GI recommended it to me after a colonoscopy- I hadn't gone for like 4 days. I've only had to use it that once, but I do sometimes get constipated, & that bottle is at the ready in my medicine cabinet. Other family members (without UC) have used it with great success also. It's gentle, quick, not horrible tasting, & doesn't give you cramps. Also, my constipation issues have all but stopped with the introduction of fiber supplements- I eat 2 Metamucil wafers daily.

diagnosed with UC '02
meds-
Asacol- 8 tabs/day
Remicade-10mgs/kg- since 4/07
Imuran- 150mgs/day
Culturelle
Fiber supplement

YEARS ago, when I was pregnant, my doctor prescribed Senokot.  I think they still sell it.  It may be expensive though.

These suggestions help a lot.
I had a bit of progress about an hour ago. Not enough it seemed for not going for a week and a half. I will go out tomorrow and see if I can find another of these suggestions.

Thank you!

I was just hospitalized w/ constipation (when they thought i might have a blockage) after ct scan, i was given milk of mag. and a suppository (do not know what it was) and in about two hrs, i nearly saw GOD! If you are having such a problem, call ur doc, maybe they can prescribe over the phone the suppositories. good luck

thanks!
I was worried about treating both ends, but it sounds like there is no hurt in it.

I will try the MOM tomorrow.

Be careful with the use of laxatives and stuff, especially if you are in a flare. If you have pain, bloating and/or nausea/vomiting along with lack of bm's it may be worth it to call your dr and see what he/she thinks. Lack of bm's along with other symptoms may indicate a colonic or small bowel obstruction or some other issue like toxic megacolon. Upright and supine (lying down) x-rays of your abdomen can help determine whether you are constipated (indicated by the presence of lots of stool in the colon) or obstructed (dilated loops of small bowel with air-fluid levels). The most important thing is that you know your body better than anyone else so listen to your gut (haha no pun intended).
Distal UC (25cm), Nov 2008
Meds: Lialda 3.6g, Canasa supp. 1g (for 3 weeks, from Nov. 5), Prednisone 40 mg/daily 4 week taper
