Just curious on what you all consider a long term vs. short term dosages of oral prednisone.  I was taking 40 mg daily for two weeks and my doctor just upped it to 60 mg for two more weeks.  She said we are tapering after that no matter what or how I feel.
My question is how long have you been on pred. and how much?
Thanks.

I take it that you weren't getting any better at the 40 mgm dosage?  That is what my doctor started me at when my flare resumed after my taking the prednisone for the better part of six months.  Before that, he usually started me at 30 mgm with slow taper.  However, the 30 just didn't seem to do the trick.  So, I took the 40 mgm for one week, with tapering 10 mgm every week thereafter until I got down to 10 mgm, then I dropped to 5 mgm for another week and then 5 mgm every other day for another week.  Hopefully, along with the 6 MP which finally kicked in, my long flare (7 months) has subsided.  I've been off the prednisone one month today.

Update 11/03/08...finally in remission!!  Hope I don't jinx myself.  Off the prednisone since 11/01/08...now see if I can stay off for longer than two weeks.  Other meds: 6MP (75 mgm), colazal (6 per day), Benicar and Toprol (high blood pressure meds), Probiotic (2 per day), fish oil capsule and multi-vitamin and calcium with vitamin D.
