Hi all, Well, my son is going to take his first Remicade treatment Friday. How should he expect to feel the next day? When he takes Prednisone during a flare, he heals up quick so he hopes Remicade works fast too. Also he is now on 6MP (3 a day) and Asacol (6 a day)
He is not flaring now (last bad flare was Sept. 07) but just has about 5 trips to the potty first thing in the morning, starts out formed then ends up mucousy and loose. No blood, or pain, and then is fine all day. He is able to take all meds without any problem, so he is hoping the same will hold true for Remicade. His last colonoscopy showed it is only moderate on the descending colon. 8 years ago, the whole colon was affected. and seems to have gotten better. However, he is bothered by skin lessions on his arms and legs. Does anyone else get those? Should the Remicade help that? He is a little scared but also ready to start Remicade to see if it will help to put him in remission. My husband also has colitis for 40 years, and took Azulfidine.
Then later on, 25 years, got on Asacol, then 6MP. Since he retired 8 years ago, he has NOT HAD ANY flares and his doctor told him after his last colonoscopy that his large intestines look normal and like he never even had UC. He still takes 4 asacol and 1 purenithol a day for maintenance. So, I guess it is true that you can eventually heal up. By the way, he retired 8 years ago, and all the stress has been releived.
I think that played an important role to help heal him. But he NEVER took Remicade, so my son is a little concerned but hopeful he will tolorate it as well as he does the other drugs.
