As a fan of the hygiene hypothesis for auto-immune conditions and IBD- namely that it has been our elimination of not just the bad, but also the good co-resident bacteria and parasites in our bodies that have helped bring on the epidemics in diabetes, obesity, auto-immune conditions, etc., I lean towards keeping some dirt, but when I see people leave bathrooms without washing up, I draw the line there for certain.
