Hi everyone,

I just started VSL#3 DS last week and my insurance company doesn't cover it. My question is this: Is there anyone who has had success getting coverage from their insurance company? I have Cigna. If you've had success can you tell me what you did, how long the process took, and what insurance company you use?

Thanks so much!

I have personal choice and they did not cover it at first. My GI doc wrote an appeal letter saying VSL#3 has had good results with me and that he wants me to take VSL#3 DS. He also said other options he is considering is Remicade, etc. They approved it 2 days after recieving the fax from their office.

I have Cigna as well, and I was told they would absolutely not cover pro-biotics. I didn't pursue it beyond my first call, but I wonder if Mrsarcasm's method might work? Remicade is tres expensive compared to VSL#3 DS. If you pursue getting Cigna to cover the VSL, let me know how it went. Maybe if more people with Cigna began requesting it, they might change their mind? My work also offers a Flexible Spending Account, and I learned that pro-biotics would be reimbursable as long as my doctor sent in a letter stating that they were medically needed. That helps a little with the cost, although I'm still paying full price...

Tried the spinach/sunflower diet.  Saw some relief in symptoms after 1 month, but symptoms returned with the taper off prednisone.

Just make sure the letter to the insurance from the doctor says VSL#3 DS. The DS part is VERY important.
