Your LBP can be UC related and maybe not. The UBP the same. Both really could come from a ton of different things. Most come from poor posture, bad work positions, spine misalignments, being overweight, sitting at pc too long, rib out, degeneration, over stressed, poor diets, no exercise or stretching, poor gait, carrying a purse that's too heavy for years on one side, having a new baby, getting grandchildren, bad mattress, sitting in a recliner that pushes your head forward, lack of curve in cervical spine or overexaggeration of thoracic curve. Your sacrum and pelvic region can also give you LBP.... etc. Most of time it's combination of several different things. Even having large chest size for women can cause that. Those are just some of the more obvious things that can cause.

Dr-A is most definately correct. I have many back issues. My lower back spasms on me severely if I bend over doing something and having ruled out many issues, the doc came to the conclusion that I am putting the wrong type of stress on that area. Also too, when I am having Uc issues then my lower back tends to act up more. My upper back pain I found was due to having bulging/herniated discs in my neck. I had a series of epidural injections and luckily that pain is gone now. If, the upper back pain continues, you should see your doctor to rule out anything more serious then an overstressed back.

I also had back spasms about every six months, starting about 5 years ago. This year I started to have sciatic nerve pain too -- yowee ouch -- and MRI showed a slightly bulging disc in my lower back. Myofascial release therapy helped before, but I irritated it again from overactivity and this time it is stubborn. I have an epidural cortisone shot scheduled.

Yeah, I've had sacrum, shoulder, neck, & hip pain/stiffness induced by UC flares-- also by cold weather. When bugged by the latter cause I can usually get relief from hot showers & BenGay arthritis-formula ointment. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

I have this problem, too. It's usually my lower back, but occasionally my upper back/shoulder blades will hurt as well. A heating pad helps a lot.

I have lower back pain too, but I KNOW it is due to the fall I took about four years ago and suffered a compressed fracture of the lumbar spine.  I also have osteoporosis due to all the prednisone I have taken since developing UC in 1998.
