my question might sound a little funny.
i hv just started having probiotics...was just wondering what happens to the bacteria we take in? do we pass in stools.. or do they accumulate in our gut ... pls tell me?
Guessing i have IBD, first doctor visit scheduled mid-December'08.
On no medication.

There is always bacteria in our intestines. Billions or trillions to be exact. They are always there. So the probiotics replace the bad bacteria with the good. They basically create a better flora in our intestines which can allow us to heal better since Uc'ers tend to have too much bad bacteria. I'm sure some of the bacteria passes in the stool but I don't think it's enough to defeat the purpose of probiotics.

thanks red_34, this question struck me thinking we r everyday putting so much bacteria in our gut....was wondering where it goes. thanks for letting me know

Probiotics are friendly bacteria so there is no worries in taking them...IBDers tend to have bad bacterial overgrowth so we need those good guys (in the form of probiotics).

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)
