I have pretty much tried about 95% of every herb and supplement and "natural" healing method under the sun over the years, but it has been a long, long time since I tried using any sort of aloe vera product internally.  The last time I did it was laxative and flaring.  I see Princessa and some others have posted some aloe products in their profiles that are supposedly stripped of the laxative qualities. (There is also that 'AMP' company in Florida whose products I did try once to no effect, and which sounded and still sounds like a pure scam to me in any case.)  Just wondering if anyone here who had reacted BADLY to an aloe product later found one that was not harsh in any way.  Thanks in advance.

I tried a store brand - don't remember the name of it now - and it immediately cause problems. I called the company and their customer service swore the laxative component, aloin, had been removed. I tried again, but it still irritated me. George's Roadrunner Aloevera is the only one I know for sure is aloin-free, pure and gentle.
Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis spring 1999.

Maintenance dose sulfasalazine.
Probiotics, l-glutamine and fish oil caps. George's aloe vera juice. Oregano oil antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal. Long-term remission with only minor blips.

Thanks, princesa. I have some headed my way.... I consider it a victory to find a supplement that doesn't make me worse, so you never know.

Currently my biggest complaint is pain- lots of it and 24/7. However as I taper the pred, D returns (currently ultra-soft to loose 1-3x a day) and eventually, B too. Hoping the remi allows me to get off the pred, or something else does, otherwise I will plan for the knife.

Have you tried l-glutamine as a way of healing the gut and controlling D? Also, have you done any research into antifungal/antiviral/antimicrobial protocols that might address an underlying infection of some sort that might be causing the pain/D?

I have heard that the Lily of the Desert aloe vera gel is one that is not a laxative, since it has the aloin removed. Several people on this forum reported having luck with it, but I haven't tried it.

Thanks Sara14- I will keep that one in mind too. Princesa- re. the glutamine- yes, have used it on and off. It doesn't seem to have any healing effect on me at all- only a short term constipating effect. plus, now I am a bit wary, because I have actually seen some very recent research papers in Pubmed that suggest it can paradoxically increase, not decrease, some aspects of inflammation. (I was surprised too.) Re. fungal or microbial infections- I am working on that. I have had numerous, expensive alternative tests come up negative for Candida and any obvious pathogens, however I am getting some more yet again to try and rule out everything before I end up colon-less. The thing is, I have tried lots of natural antibiotics- grapefruit seed extract and oil of oregano notably, on and off and all they seem to do is flare me up. Whether that is the famous "die off" or not, it is savage in my case in anything other than very light doses. But I have been researching and am working with an alternative MD. Mycobacterium are another possibility for all of us but one for which there is essentially no testing yet available anyhow.

Sounds like you're doing your homework. Just thought I'd throw that out there if you hadn't already looked into it. Garlic caps really irritated me, but wild oregano oil seems to be well tolerated.

Curious to know who the alternative MD is you're working with, if you don't mind sharing.
