OK  ,  here is one I haven't read on here.  The doctor called today, Wednesday,  and told my son to stop taking his Asacol and to come in to discuss the 6-MP meds.  My son just started with Remicade Friday, so why is he taking him off of the Asacol already??  hmmm...Matt is a little hesitant because he is  doing kinda good now, no bleeding or pain, even before the first Remi dose.   I notice that lots of you folks who take the Remicade still take all the other meds along with it.  Has anyone heard of this before.  Luckily, my son has an appointment with the doctor tomorrow to discuss this.  But, hey he is the doctor so I hope this doesn't hurt my son's colon by not having that Asacol.
Good grief,  will there ever be a time in the rest of my life I'm not worrying over this son's  butt??  :-)  I have two other sons and 2 grandsons,,,thank God they are healthy.
If any of you guys got to quit your regular meds while on Remi,  I'd sure like to hear from you and how it went.
Thanks again for all your help,,,you are all my only link to get out my questions and frustrations.

Yes, I stopped Asacol right away after starting my Remi, and reduced my pred slowly until I was off. I never had any problems.

Loneylane,  or  Carol,,,  You are a God send to me,,,now I can sleep tonight  :-).  Knowing you went off Asacol calmed my fears and I'll tell my son you did fine.  Also, you said you slowly went off your Pred.  He hasn't taken that in a while but he does take 6MP now...3 a day...maybe he'll be weaned off of that too. I think  (and hope)  that the fact that none of the drugs that they gave my son every bothered him in any way. No side affects,, and to top it off, he smokes.  I know that as a kid growing up and now as an adult, he never got sick with anything.  While the rest of us would be sick, he'd just walk by and be fine. Not even a cold.  Until this colitis hit him.  But he still doesn't get flus or colds etc. So you and him must have similiar constitutions that you can deal with this Remicade with  no affects.. (so far)  Can't wait for him to see the doctor tomorrow.  He has to get a flu shot too soon.  Thanks again.

I'm glad I could help ease your mind; I'm sure watching your child go through this is very tough. Funny -- I was always really healthy too until this UC hit; even now I'm nearing 50 and all I take is the Remi. My BP, Cholesterol, etc. are just fine. Go figure! And yes, he needs to get that flu shot to help guard him getting a potential bug. Good luck with the doc appt., and let us know how it goes.
