My doctor's nurse says this time of year is always the worst for UCers; could be the weather, the stress, whatever. This is also my first Christmas with (diagnosed) UC, although I had symptoms last year...at Christmas! I am not feeling too bad, but like you am very tired and aching all over. Just went to my first Christmas potluck yesterday, and it is such a challenge to make good food choices without trying to explain why you're avoiding certain delicious-looking things...

Wish I had some ideas for you, lambkins, but I'm in the same boat -- haven't done any wrapping or shipping of packages, haven't put up the tree, have a ton to do at work as well, and only one more week of school before the holiday. Plus my husband will be gone for a few days next week, ugh. I guess we just have to hang in there and lower our expectations a bit.

This time of the year is bad for me as well.  I just read an article that says that vitimin D is essential for keeping your immune system under control and people with UC and Chrons are deficient in Vitimin D.  I am adding that supplement into my daily mix of pills to see if that helps.  It makes sense, winter months, no sunlight, indoors all the time.  If you are interested I think I read it on the CCFA.org website.

Worth a try.

One of my gastros said it was the combination of stress and rich holiday foods that made flares more common this time of year.

I always am bothered with it even more at xmas I think because I have to be out and about, and on my feet more, in stores and such. I also love xmas cookies, and now know wheat and sugar are something I need to avoid so it's no wonder I have struggled at this time.
Today my sister and I begin our annual shopping weekend in the city, I'm so hopeful I can get by with fewer bathroom breaks this year. I've been doing Rowasa faithfully all week to try to get as healthy as possible!
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering.
Asacol/5ASA 6x400 mg maintenance for 20+ years; use prednisone & Rowasa for flares.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed gluten, other intolerances; started diet without gluten, soy, dairy, tomato etc. Replete$$ probiotic powder at first, now Forte pills.
Doing much better, but still experience anxiety that interferes with activities.

Downs, that white stuff is mucous. Uc'ers tend to produce much of this because our colons are irritated.

Lambkins, I have had soooo many xmas's where I felt crappy. I definately believe it's the stress of the holiday and the pressure to get everything done. I am stressing out myself and I can feel it in my gut. So I have been trying to just take it easy and I got all my family's shopping done and I feel that if I can't get out there and shop for rest of the family so be it. They will just money or lottery cards. :)
