Hi! I am not trying right now but my GI has also told me that it would be ok to be on Remicade while pregnant.......There is a rating for all meds regarding the safety rating to the fetus during pregnancy. I'm not sure exactly what Remicade is "rated" but I believe it's safe. Check online for some peace of mind though!

Remicade is rated class B by th federal govt. It means take if necessary. Imuran is a big no according to the govt, class D.

I have been on remicade since march and plan on getting pregnant sometime next year. The research I have found agrees with my GI and OB that remicade is fine during pregnancy but there is not enough research to say breastfeeding is ok or not.

I feel that remicade is great and there is no way I could be off of it while pregnant. Those who say that remicade may not be safe are talking about long term affects on the kids. That means are they affected as adults.

You can check out drug classifications for pregnant women on the fda website. Good luck!

Hi everyone! I'm planing to get pragnant next year too, but my BIGGEST consern is CAN THE BABY GET UC!!! I'm sooo scared of it. I have 16 month old boy, and I was diagnosed with UC 6 month after his birth. And every time if he has diarea, I panic :( I know it's crazy, but I'm still learning how to deal with this new life of mine.

I am glad to hear that at least in the US Remicade is okay during pregnacy. This seems to be the next drug for me and I would love to have another baby next year...

I took Imuran throughout my whole pregnancy this past year (my babes is now 6 1/2 months old and perfectly healthy) and my Dr's seem to think it was okay.

It's funny how different Dr's have different answers for all the same questions... especially the difference between the US and Canada... One day maybe everyone will have the same answer :o)
No day but today... Defy gravity... Measure in love...

Thanks for your input.  I just don't know what to do.  I have only taken prednisone during both of my pregnancies.  I'm afraid to take any drug while pregnant.  My GI has been trying to get me to do the remicade every 8 weeks, instead of using prednisone- which has been the drug of choice for me.  I hate it, but eventually it works.  It would be nice to finally get off prednisone for good- but to have to take remicade every 8 weeks?  I'm still scared that it is a mouse protein!  I guess I'm in denial STILL that I have UC.  I don't want to always have to take a med.  & I want to get pregnant again in the next 6 months.  I'd like to try to stay healthy & not have the remicade during pregnancy.  Of course, Wouldn't we all!!!!  I'm having remicade 12/16.  I have had it sporadically throughout the years.  Last year 2x in Feb 08.  I guess I'll just see how things go!  Thanks! Jen

Gina 13mos, born at 35wks--both of my babies are TOTALLY PERFECT!!!!!
