I'm having a very crappy morning.  No pun intended.  My Uc is somewhat behaving for a change.  I am still having some minor cramps but I just take a Bentyl and that handles that.  But it's the rest of me that is falling apart and I'm getting frustrated, fed up, depressed and angry!  I am having such a hard time getting into the holiday spirit but I am trying.  I started taking St. Johns Wort about 3 weeks ago to help with my SAD and it seems to work fairly well but I may ask my doc for a prescription anti-depressant.  But the main thing that is bothering me now is my fingers.  I am having a heck of time with my new diagnosis of arthritis.  I am seeing my primary tomorrow to get her to give me a steroid injection in my middle finger of my left hand because the darn thing is so sore that it wakes me up several times a night and I can't even lift a toilet paper roll without it hurting - and we all know how important it is to get to that toilet paper roll!  But when I see my primary tomorrow, I am going to have her look into the possibility of me having psoaratic arthritis because if I do have that, I need to start on a medication that will slow or halt the progression as soon as possible.  More of my joints are becoming affected so I know that it isn't just OA anymore.  So I am getting fed up with that.........oh and the meds! Omgoodness the meds!  Normally it doesn't bother me to be taking 20 pills a day but for some reason it is starting to annoy me.  I seems that when I get done taking a dose, it's time again to take the next one.  I know that isn't so but it feels like it.  I dunno, I guess I'm just all around disgusted with everything.  I hate feeling this way, especially around the holidays!  Agh! Ok, I'm done now - vent over.

Oh Sherry, I feel so bad for you!  I don't know your age, but I assume you are much younger than I.  Go ahead and vent all you like.  I was just reading about compressed fractures of the lumbar spine because I suffered one about four years ago ...took a flop right on my behind and my back has been bothering me a lot lately.  Now my hips are giving me a problem too.  Aging is NOT fun.  I have osteoporosis from the steroid use over the years.  I refuse to take Fosamax because it can cause ulcers in the esophagus and my GI doctor knows this!  He still suggests my taking it though..ugh..pills, pills, pills!

Update 11/03/08...finally in remission!!  Hope I don't jinx myself.  Off the prednisone since 11/01/08...now see if I can stay off for longer than two weeks.  Other meds: 6MP (75 mgm), colazal (6 per day), Benicar and Toprol (high blood pressure meds), Probiotic (2 per day), fish oil capsule and multi-vitamin and calcium with vitamin D.

Christine, yes I am younger then you - 38 to be exact. Luckily for me, I have never been on oral pred just steroid enemas and steroid injections. But even with the little amount of steroids that do get into my blood, my primary has me go every year or two for a bone density test. I am severely lactose intolerant so my dairy intake is nil and sometimes calcium even gives me grief. So far, knock on wood, my bone density is fine! So I guess that is ONE good thing anyway! :)

Sherry....you are truly one of my heroes for all you are able to endure with the utmost dignity....and I deeply feel for you for all you are having to go through. I would have lost it long ago...

I would get the doc to check you for any possibiliies. Is it a rheumatologist you'd be seeing?

There are antidepressants that can help with body pain, which I can't remember at this moment...worth considering.

The other option is Remi or the new med Enbril....
Pain patches could help rather than taking oral meds. You should also be sent to a pain clinic if you're not already in one. Hopefully, they can treat you "whole"istically because all of what you have is probably related.

Hang tough....I hope your doc gets you on the right track.

Bless your heart Sherry. You are having a rough time. I read your post about the turmoil in Michigan, and knowing someone, well kind of knowing someone :) there, made it seem more real. There is doom and gloom all over, but Michigan has to be feeling pain the most. Hang in there, and remember you have a pen pal in SC. Come on down!!! Happy holidays to you and your family.

Thanks Heather, you're a sweetheart (Shhhh! Ok I won't spread that rumor!) ;0). I am seeing my primary tomorrow and I would much rather deal with her then the only two rheumys that I can go to. I went to him earlier this year and I don't know if you remember about my appointment from hades by this doc or not? But because of my insurance I don't have much choice in who I can see. BUT if I have to go back to him then I guess I will endure. The reason I think it may be psoaratic arthritis is because I do have psoarasis and I guess it's pretty common to get the arthritis associated with it. I have already ran the gauntlet for pain docs and they threw up their hands because they were at a loss as to what to do with me. Most times pain docs will prescribe anti-inflammatories and/or narcotic pain meds and we all know how that goes for Uc'ers.

Martha (I know who you are lol), thank you. And I will keep that in mind if we ever make it to SC. Btw, my best friends son may be moving there and her too eventually. Not sure where or when but her son may be going college there. She wants to go so bad too but I keep telling her that she is not allowed to leave me! :)

What college? Jackson got accepted to USC yesterday, University of South Carolina, not southern cal:):) I'll bet if you came down here, you would never look back!!! At least come for a visit, and call me. I will email you the number, if you ever decide to come down. It is 70 degrees today, if that helps. Hang in there.

Martha, 70 degrees??? Oh man, that is MY summer! :) We've been dealing with temps around 20 degrees today and we just had about 4" of snow last night. I'm not sure which college but I will ask my friend when I talk to her next.

Gigi, yes stress is a "killer" for many of us and I am trying my darndest to not let it get to me. It's rough for sure.

I've been learning about stress myself this past month. I work with kids, and sometimes I have good days, sometimes I don't. Then my bad days stretch out cuz I worry about the things that I shouldn't. Today, I went into work with no worry one bit. I just let it all go. Not my job to worry. It's my job to do my job. I know this is totally different, but I do understand your frustrations. Although this frustration is a bit different. Frustration is frustration. I guess my only suggestion is to let it go. I know it's extremely hard with physical issues. Maybe when you see your doctor you will feel a little better.
