Newly diagnosed with pancolitis grade 4, iron deficient anemic and protien deficient. I've been very sick. I was hospitalized Nov 14 - 20. Upon release I was clinically controlled on prednisone and remicade. Prednisone wacked my blood sugar so I am now on insulin, 4 shots daily.

The low-residue diet and diabetic diet contradict each other. Its frustrating. I am overwhelmed.

I am having difficulty deciding what is best for me to eat. Trial and error for the past 4 weeks.

Yesterday was off schedule with meds and did not eat protien.. Last night I could not stop eating carbs, I was not even hungry.

Today was a bad day for me. I was bloated, dizzy, weak, had headache, ear aches, 97.4 temp, exhausted, unable to concentrate. Very disengaged, cancelled appt with diabetic specialist. Had late day diarhea w/urgency, 4 Xs. Loss appitite. Still feeling lousy.

Are these side effects of new meds or poor food choices?

you need to follow the diabetic diet.....firstly! you can cause dire consequences from screwing with your sugar/insulin levels... the decision's pretty much been made for you. It's so unfortunate that the prednisone has put you in this situation.

What's the reason you aren't eating protein?

What part is the contradiction you're having distress about?

Have you checked out the diabetes forum on this site? Do so...I think you need to connect with that support as well as this forum to find the balance you need in order to not be conflicted or distressed. need to reschedule the appointment with the diabetic specialist and get him/her to work with your GI as far as what you should do regarding meds, foods, etc.
As well...get the doc to set you up with an appointment with a nutritionist who specialises in diabetes.

Hang'll be a bumpy road before you get it straightened out.
