I am ON 6-MP since 3 weeks and OFF Prednisone since 10 days (Whoo hoo!!!).
I never had acne on Pred; in fact I had great skin on Pred. However, the last week on Pred at a dose of 5 mg, I started to develop pimples, mainly around my mouth and on my chin.
3 or 4 days ago, I had a warm shower and washed my face with my usual products. When I was done showering and toweling off, I noticed that my face was completely red and itchy, so was the front of my neck and actually the back of my neck, too (even behind the ears and close to the hairline). The redness/itchyness has not disappeared yet; in fact, I went and only washed my face with warm water since that incident, but the itch is driving me insane and I would love to take a scouring pad and rub it all over the sides of my face and my forehead, because the itch is killing me! I have no experience with acne, but I am pretty sure it is not acne. I do have little bumps and blotches on my face, but they don't look anything like zits! Or does acne itch?
Could this be from getting off the Prednisone or being on 6-MP since three weeks or coincidence? I do have some body rash and I blame winter itch for it, but the thing with my face and neck is something else. I could scratch all the time!! Like I said, I have not used any other products and the problems still persist with washing the face with only luke-warm water and putting Aquaphor or Eucerin on my face as a moisturizer.
Does that sound familiar to anyone? If it's not getting any better soon, I will go and see a dermatologist.

Tell your doctor.  I stopped reading the about the bad effects meds have on the system because I am afraid I would stop all my  I take 6MP too but never developed any kind of rash.

Update 11/03/08...finally in remission!!  Hope I don't jinx myself.  Off the prednisone since 11/01/ see if I can stay off for longer than two weeks.  Other meds: 6MP (75 mgm), colazal (6 per day), Benicar and Toprol (high blood pressure meds), Probiotic (2 per day), fish oil capsule and multi-vitamin and calcium with vitamin D.

I developed a rash on my face a year ago. It was around my mouth and it had spread to my left cheek. I went to the doctor, she prescribed me Elidel. That didn't work so then she had me try an otc cortisteroid cream. That barely worked so then she put me on a stronger prescription steroid cream. I managed to get the redness and itchiness under control and now I maintain it with Elidel once at night. But I also use every thing that is gentle for you face including Cetaphil cleanser. The make up I use is Bare Escentual which is a mineral based makeup. My doc came to the conclusion that it is from the 6mp but I will take the rash over the bad effects of what would happen if I was to stop 6mp. I also get random rashes on my torso; usually when I get sick though. I notice that I tend to flush easier too now that I'm on 6mp.
