I forgot to ask this question, if the LIalda is the MMX technology designed to get all fo the colon is that better for someone like me who has it near the cecum and left side or the sulfsalsazine? My doc said take Lialda b/c it's easier to remember to take the meds once and day, I can be deligent on taking meds throughout the day, that's not the problem or question, I'm just wondering what one would get all my colon without having to use rectal meds.
Please respond.
Thank You,
First scope 7/05 should no UC, but I was bleeding with urgency, was told I had IBS. Six months later, sigmoid showed UC at rectum, 2nd colonoscopy & Endoscopy 7/27/07, Left sided colitis and near cecum (mild) no UC at rectum. On and off meds, but the side effects are worse than the dis-ease itself. 5ASA's make me highly nervous, feeling on verg of panic attack all day, thence "accidents", especially when driving.
12/08 Olive leaf extract, probiotics, holy basil, whole food multi-vitamin. I manage on a daily basis, work out 4-5 times a week. I feel like a volcano during the day and erupt in the AM (bathroom for a hour), the it starts all over again. Try to eat gluten free and low sugar diet.

Neither will treat the rectum.
*Heather* Status..Asacol 6 (3 twice daily); flaring since Dec 22, enemas nightly (sigh!!)
~diagnosed January 1989 UC (proctosigmoiditis)
~Bentylol (dicyclomine) 20mg as needed
~Probiotics....(Natural Factors Protec, Primadophilus Reuteri Pearls, Natural Factors Ultimate).... @ bedtime
~various digestive enzymes as needed
~Ranitidine (reflux);  Effexor XR 75mg(depression);  Pulmicort/Airomir (asthma)
~URSO for PSC (or PBC) 500mg X 2 daily (LFTs back to NORMAL!!)
My doc's logic.. "TREAT (FROM)BOTH ENDS"  worth it !!!

Second that. None of the meds are great at treating the whole colon. Rectal meds does good for that area and sigmoid colon, but I have yet to see results from taking anything by mouth in 10 years.
Proctitis DX 1999, Pancolitis DX 2008
Lialda 1 day
Golimumab study
Vitamin E Enemas as needed

miracles: Pentasa has the best mechanism for evenly dispersing the meds...lialda's mmx tech is primarly their time release mechanism. I have pancolitis and Pentasa on it's own does not always do the trick and cortifoam picks up where Pentasa leaves off...just have to use ot more than 2x's per week in order to stay in remission
Moderate Pancolitis
