Having a weird day here... am self employed and have been home alot last few days with the holidays, all my clients want to do holiday and family stuff instead of standing in a barn while I work.  Can't blame them, plus I know money is tight this time of year for everyone, and I have been doing this for 15 years so I expect this slow down.  Yesterday I didn't have to work at all, was home all day. Was a nice relaxing day.  I noticed though that out of boredom I drank alot of water.  Ate normally but consumed quite a bit more water.  Now today where I had been having formed or partially formed Bm's and only in morning.  Am back to loose runny Bm's.... COuld this be the extra water?  I took an imodium around eight and even this is not helping today.  ANy thoughts?

absolutely .... they suggest to us to up water intake if we're constipated. That plus certain fibre and foods will loosen the stool.

You should leave the imodium and consider a fibre supplement to bulk up the stool to absorb the excess water you're consuming.
Especially considering you've cut out certain fibres that are in gluten foods.

makes sense to me... I just knew something had happened different and that was all I could think of. Imodium did end up workin, never had to make that flyin trip to the bathroom, but it felt like I would, all day.
Doc told me to stop in Beneful after I tried it for two months with no results. Said I must be gettin plenty of fiber with my diet? Was considering adding it anyways till I started the spinach/sunflower seed part of the diet. Kinda figured I was getting plenty of fibe from those? I also eat a few handfuls of baby carrots a day, oatmeal least three times a week for breakfast. and brown rice at least 3 times a week. Tonight is home canned Green beans/ redskinned Potatos/ and left over chunks of xmas ham cooked in a cast iron dutch oven for a couple hours. AM new to this so... still dond research on the "proper" ways to eat.

One of the colons main jobs is to absorb water so I would think drinking extra water would make a difference. But that is great that you drink a lot of water. Since I started drinking mainly water 8 years ago (even before I got UC) I notice hardly anyone drinks water and if they do it's not near enough.
I think water helps my UC. I have severe pancolitis and my symptoms have never really made me feel like I have severe colitis throughout my entire colon. I like to think my large consumption of water helps. There are so many benefits of water. It helps eliminate toxins and aslo moisturizes joints and stuff which I think helps with pains.

I read that you bought probiotics the other day. I don't know why but in the past whenever I tried proboitics all they did was give me D. They possibly do the same for you so you might want to keep an eye on that.

Probiotics: When you start probiotics, you can almost expect to get more diarhea and some discomfort. That is normal and hang in there, it will pass. I had the same problem and waited until my flare got a bit more under control and tried the probiotics again and voila!

Just a suggestion: What I do regarding fiber intake is to take a cup of yoghurt and mix it with one cup of Fiber One cereal - only if you can/like yoghurt and not flaring too much. It is tasty and only half a cup of Fiber One will do, too, but I like the whole cup. I don't know if the Fiber One is gluten-free, so you might want to check on it, but it helps me.

Sorry to hear that you feeling well and out of the flare on Christmas must have been a lucky fluke for you, was hopeful that you gave the flare the stink eye for good this time. I am fortunately doing very well and flare up seems to be gone - I hope it is fair and safe to say this is the case with almost three symptom-free weeks, off Prednisone and on 6-MP. Good times anyway!

Hope you find a solution for you soon, I keep my fingers crossed!

unclebubba,

one more thought: Do you like to drink that much or are you that thirsty?

Prednisone can elevate your blood glucose level, hence you are thirstier than normal.

Just an idea.

was lookin for a different probitioc today... haven't pruchased any yet. Been on the same one since aug.
I did it to myself according to others on here over christmas with over indulgence of alcohol. Thought I was safe. I have been drinkin small amount of alcohol all along, as according to my doc it actually has a numbing effect on the colon. and I can attest to the fact that my gut feels better after a couple beers. But I got into the HOLIDAY SPIRIT and had to many. and I guess I must have wiped out the Mag i had been building up. Oh well I guess live and learn and start again.

I normally drink about 3/4 of a gallon a day, even before the flare started. I've always drank alot of fluid.. back then it was water, pop, tea, beer. Now its just mainly water. SOmtimes decaff iced tea and the OCCASSIONAL heineken. The other day was just a boredom thing I think. Home all day with nothing to do really. Just kept my glass full all day.
