I just found this forum and its great to hear others with the same stories(great was a bad choice of words) I have been on remicade for the past year and it has been the best year of the last 12 i've lived with this horrible condition. I 've had only two flare ups in that year, I belive both were self induced one by eating raw veggies and the other from pain killers that a Dr. other than my GI perscribed. I may have to stop the Remicade due to the outrageous cost, my copay comes out to $700 every 6 weeks, I've found out the medication is $300 and the out patient clinic charges $3600 to administer it!

A lot of the things I've read here I've lived, so its nice to know I'm not the Lone Ranger. I recently have stopped eating meat, fish and all dairy products, only eating plant based foods. I am going through a flare up due to the pain killers, so physicaly I feel good no real gut pain and all the other things that go with a flare up, my question is has anyone tried this sort of diet or heard of such athing as UC being a meat eaters disease.

Never heard of it put that way....as far as a meat eaters disease...actually I find many veggies and non-meat make my UC symptoms worse....I tend to stick to fish, chicken, pork....
FYI I have heard that once you stop Remicade, it can make it such that it doesnt work when / if you start back up....Not sure how true that is but some hear may know better than I do.

I got a laugh at your forum name....I tend to try to avoid that at all costs which is the reason for the quote in my signature. :)

Welcome to the board.
34 yr old male. UC for 14 years. Started left-sided, most recent scope shows pancolitis. 40mg pred (as of 12/16/08), 12 pills Asacol per day, 1mg Atavan per day (anxiety) when needed, Fish oil pills, Culturelle probiotics, Multivitamin. Recent Endonasal brain surgery to remove non-cancerous hormone producing tumor on pituitary gland (and I am still more afraid of my UC!!) "I poop in the woods because I can"

Fish is soooooooo healthy for us and full of omegas that we need because we don't produce them naturally, I hope you are at least supplementing with omegas?

UC is not a meat-eaters disease in any way shape or form, plenty of vegitarians get UC as well...it's pretty much genetics and environmental triggers that cause the disease not meat alone of course avoiding animal fats is recommended, eating lean meats is obviously a better choice but the fats in fish are good fats and our bodies really do need those omegas.

:)
My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)
