Did you do anything special on New Years Eve?  Did you make any resolutions?  smilewinkgrin
I personally don't make resolutions because to me that is like setting myself up to fail and I don't like doing that.  So no resolutions for me.  I didn't do a thing last night but lie on the couch!  I have a nasty head cold and my hubby's still sick with bronchitis.  We didn't even stay awake to watch the new year come in!  Last year we didn't celebrate either because my daughter was sick and then this year me and the hubby are!  Go figure mad

Happy New Year to you, too, Red! I didn't do anything to celebrate really. Talked to some good friends on the phone who I hadn't talked to in a while and read a good book. I didn't make any resolutions either.

Sorry to hear you and your hubby are sick! Hope you feel better soon.

Hey, there! Happy, healthy new year 2009 to all! Sherry, I hope your household will soon be rid of viral bugs; hang in there!!!!!!!! Somehow I anticipated a frigid New Year's Eve-- so did not make plans to go out. Lucky, too, because it was 18 degrees at midnight with wind chill around 0-2 degrees: brrrrrrrr! Instead of braving the weather I stayed at home reading a book that my best friend & siblings compiled to honor their late father's career in the U.S. Foreign Service. It gave me a very good feeling because he was a kind, gracious, & intelligent man, very devoted to his family & country, who set high standards & always did his best to fulfill them. I was also listening to FM, where the final (choral) movement of Beethoven's 9th Symphony played thru midnight-- so, a quiet celebration for me, too. May we have a peaceful 2009, with good health & better government & improved economic conditions ... ALSO, thanks to all you Forum moderators for your wise advice & good cheer over the year just past. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC; currently on 3 original Colazal daily for maintenance of remission)

Aww thanks Old Hat for the kind comments! :) We mods do try our hardest to keep things right here on the forum.

Bbc, the 6mp is still somewhat working for me. I still have bad mornings but oddly since I got sick, everythings been much better Uc wise. I guess I gave my immune system something else to attack instead! lol

It was strange last night because my daughter went to an all night lock in at one of her friends church and my son went over a friends house overnight. It was definately quiet but I thought it ironic that one of the very few times when I can get BOTH of my kids out of the house, we got sick and didn't have plans! Well actually we could've had plan by meeting up with some friends at a bar but who wants to do that when they feel like crap eh? lol

Red, how long have you been on 6mp? It seems that I get sick or nearly sick every morning, then get the uneasy feeling in the evening as well, but besides those episodes I feel pretty good during the rest of the day. My energy is low, but most likely due to my RBC being low & my hemaglobin count down. But I believe I am starting to see some benefit to the 6mp (now on it for 8 weeks) since my BMs are getting firmer, thin and small but at least a change from the loose D.

Uc_Dad, I've been on 6mp for 3 years. But according to my last metabolites test I can't metabolize it properly. I'm just below the thereupedic (sp?) level and I can't take a higher dose because I am just below the toxic level. BUT it is keeping me out of severe flares. When I first started, I noticed an improvement around 7 weeks and then around the 4 or 5 month mark, literally all my symptoms stopped. Then I think my body got accustomed to that dose and my symptoms returned, but milder. So then my GI upped the dose and that is where I am still to this day. I take 100mgs on Monday and Thursday and 50mgs rest of the days.

Happy New Year to you all! I had a quiet night, per usual- was in bed by 9:30! Today we had a big turkey dinner with all the trimmings- ate a lot of everything, including pumpkin cheesecake, & have had about a bottle & a half of pinot noir over the past few days. And.....have been feeling great!!! I haven't been posting much, am afraid to say I may be heading into remission. But it sure seems like it- I have my usual 4-5 urgent bm's in the AM & that's about it. And funny enough- they're big! None of those little thin slimy bm's, but actual normal, fairly thick, hefty bm's! YAY! Yeah, I get the urgency when I have to go, but that's ok. I swear the high Imuran dose has done more for me than anything, including Remicade. Soooo... I'm hoping we all have a happy healthy 2009, whatever it may bring for us, be it surgery or remission. I feel good. Oh yeah, PS- I didn't make any resolutions- I haven't in a while. I try to be a better person every day, so I figure what more can I do?!?!? I would like to cut my sugar intake though- darn this sweet tooth! It gets me every time! I went to BJ's for the first time ever the other day & came home with a giant tub of Crunch & Munch... what the ??!??%% Why not the giant sized can of sweet potatoes?!?!?! rolleyes

diagnosed with UC '02
meds-
Asacol- 8 tabs/day
Remicade-10mgs/kg- since 4/07

Happy New Year!!! I didn't do anything last night, went to bed early, and woke up early. Just another day, but.... I have been thinking of what I'm going to do this year that's different from last year and that is a more balanced diet. Not just for me, but for my hubby too. Hopefully I can keep this plan. I'm going to start a diet I hope this next week called the Maker's diet. I just hope and pray that my hubby is willing to keep this diet going.

Happy New Year to all!

Bratcat and I went into NYC to see the musical Gypsy. Even by 1 pm Times Square was very crowded. Those people still had 11 hours until the ball dropped. By the way, we could see the 2009 on the building and the pole that the ball travels down but we couldn't see the ball itself (it was at the bottom of the pole hidden behind the 2009). When we came out of the show at 4:30, the police on 44th Street (where we were) told us not to even try to head back down 7th Avenue (where Times Square is). So we walked 8th Avenue back to Penn Station. Even that was a zoo.

We spent the rest of the evening at home, watching TV. Nonamejames went out to a friend's house but we spoke to him at midnight. Because there was drinking there, he didn't drive (and no one else drives if they've been drinking). The taxis were running 1-1/2 hours behind schedule. He called to see if I would be willing to pick him (and a few friends) up so out I went at 2:45 am.

Like Sherry, I don't make resolutions so I won't feel letdown if I break them. This year I plan to clean out all the boxes and drawers that I've stuffed with papers and junk in 2008. I figure I have a whole year to do that.

I wish everyone a happy, healthy, financially comfortable 2009.

Beefree, it takes time and practice to remember to take your meds. So basically you need to train yourself. I have it down now where I take them at 8am, 1pm and 10pm - those times are now drilled in my head. Plus too I use a pill organizer so I won't forget to take some of them.

Happy New Year!
We were in South Beach on the Eve, but hightailed it out of there before the heavy-duty partying started. Flew to my sister's raucous party, where I successfully fended off her alcoholic husband's encouragement to drink to excess, then flew home on New Year's Day. It's great to be home.

Better yet, I did really well on vacation. Even spent a few hours each day on the beach with no facilities and no problems. Yay!! What a relief to be doing better now.

My resolution is to go the whole year without spending any money on clothes or purses or those kind of things. I just don't need any more! Frugality in 2009 makes good sense.
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering.
Asacol/5ASA 6x400 mg maintenance for 20+ years; use prednisone & Rowasa for flares.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed gluten, other intolerances; started diet without gluten, soy, dairy, tomato etc. Replete$$ probiotic powder at first, now Forte pills. Doing much better, but still having some bad days.

I also want to wish everyone a Happy New Year! I am very new here at HW, so I just wanted to say hello. This disease really stinks during the holidays doesn't it? When everyone around you is feeling good and they are able to eat anything, it makes it hard. Oh well, I've just got to tough it out and not worry about other people and take care of myself. \

Best wishes to everyone for health this New Year!!
