Last year I was trying to find a way to get over my flare, the first one I'd had since 2001. It had gone on for months and my doc had put me on prednisone for the first time, which I hated. I tried a lot of things that would help some, but not end the flare. I felt like I was at the end of my rope. Then late one night, surfing around on the web, on just a general UC info page, I saw where some experiments were done in 1951-52(!) having UC patients drink cabbage juice and it worked. Cabbage juice has a chemical in it called methyl methionine sulfonium chloride which this researcher called vitamin U because it healed internal ulcers. Evidently, nothing was pursued with this because it required drinking a lot of fresh cabbage juice. I have a juicer and decided to give it a try. It did help me, but I was able to see that drinking a lot of cabbage juice wasn't going to be practical for me and researched online to see if I could find a practical way to take this.

There's not a lot that has been done with this, but I did find a product called Stomacin-U. It comes in a little spray bottle, like breath spray, that you spray a few squirts under your tongue; it doesn't go through your digestive tract. It's advertised to help heartburn and ulcers. I was researching this about the time of all that problem about melamine showing up in products made in China. I wanted to know what's in this stuff and where the ingredients come from. So I called the company and talked to their staff doctor.

He was very helpful and said that they have had customers with UC who have had good results using Stomacin-U. It's cabbage extract and the ingredients sounded OK to me. He said to spray 2-3 sprays under my tongue, 2-3 times a day and that most people see results in 3 weeks. So I ordered some and after taking it 3 weeks, my UC symptoms were gone. I feel great now. I have no interest in this company and I'm not connected with it in any way, just thought this may help some other UC suffers here.

I have to agree with OP! Methyl-methionine is sold as Vitamin-U in my country. I take 1 pill/day, and on the second week I started too feel much better :) And it also helped with my heartburn from the meds.

just ordered this from yahoo store I believe that S-Methylmethionine is the reason that cabbage helps me. It heals ulcers and increases your bodies mucin production.

Read here from OM about feeding goblet cells:

My mother also used cabbage juice and wheatgrass juice. She is symptom-free and meds-free for last >15 years. I tried and it did not work with me.

Since 2 weeks, I started juicing veggies, cabbage (red) more in particular and I ended up with serious constipation. I also saw some bloody flakes in the stools. I stopped juicing right away.
Diagnosed March 2007 with left sided UC at the age of 30.
