I was first put on with for 8 weeks: 3 pills for 6 weeks, 2 pills for 1 week, and 1 pill for 1 week. I see on Entocort's site that they have other options for continuing remission:

Oral dosing recommendations for ENTOCORT EC
Indication Dosage Duration
For induction 9 mg once daily -
(three 3-mg capsules each morning) Up to 8 weeks with repeated 8-week courses as necessary

Induction dosing
For maintenance of
clinical remission 6 mg once daily
(two 3-mg capsules each morning) Up to an additional 3 months
Maintenance dosing
Entire dosing cycle of induction and maintenance can be given for recurring episodes of active disease
27m - Dx January 2005 and given 80mg Prednisone to taper off and 12 tablets of Asacol
Normal medication: 12 tablets of Asacol daily

My doctor will not give me 8 weeks of full 9mg dosage no matter how I plead, so I get several weeks of relief and then when I have to taper down to 6mg I get almost immediately worse.
21 years of UC which started after quitting smoking. In and out of flares which are usually triggered by antibiotics. Latest issue is endless diarrhea without blood or mucous.
  •  Psyllium powder
  • Culturelle probiotic
  • Pentasa
  • Colonoscopies show no inflammation
  • Stool tests show no parasites
  • Tests show no celiac
  • Entocort helps for a week or two then D returns

I am having a problem with blood right now. I am taking tetracycline for acne. It is an antibiotic. I am looking for a substitute right now. My derm gave me clindamycine today, but I cannot use it. I think doxycycline is next. Who knows. I just hope the blood goes away.

I have had reactions to 5asa, sulfa, humira, immuran, etc. Prednisone was awful to me, as many others. Entocort is the one thing that can make me somewhat normal. I go in spurts, currently I am taking 3mg entocort daily with 500mg of cipro. This combo plus the remicade has actually put me very close to remission (fingers crossed). My GI doesn't mind me taking it as long as I'm not bleeding! It's a wonderful drug and I would've had to remove my colon without it. I say take what makes you feel like a person!!! Good luck!

He is going to let you stay on Entocort daily without a set period of time?
