I was diagnosed in 1999 with Ulcerative colitis.  I was pregnant, went through the flex sig, and then they wanted me in for a colonoscopy when I had my 2nd daughter in Oct 99.  I was too afraid. The symptoms of bleeding/mucous/diarrhea subsided.  I have sense learned to control my symptoms with diet.  I've had the urgency & diarrhea, but no blood since 1999.  Until now.  Monday I had my first colonoscopy & it wasn't as bad as I thought.  I was diagnosed with severe chronic active colitis and they took biopsies of my ascending colon (transverse colon)where the inflammation was.  Back in 1999 I had inflammation near the rectum.  Does this move around? What does my diagnosis mean?  I have to wait until next week to see my family practice dr who I'm sure will refer me to GI.  I'm still having the bleeding, urgency, gassiness, and mucous about 5-8 times a day.  Not every time do i have diarrhea or 'go' - most times its just a tiny mucous-blood small pieces.  I'm so sick of this and feel so frustrated.  The pathology report also states there was 2 fragments of benign colonoic mucosa w/severe chronic inflammation in lamina propria.  WHAT THE HECK IS THAT???  Sorry to vent....I just have no one to talk to about this & its driving me nuts!  Thanks!

Sorry to hear about your current flare. I am kind of in the same situation, I have been dealing with proctitis for a long time and it's gotten worse recently. I have been treating it with a few meds and lately I have had improvements in my BMs and my gasiness. I think the goal is to reduce the inflammation and to help us feel better. Please try not to get stressed. You will get some answers soon and I am sure there will be some treatment options available. This is a great place to vent, we all understand your frustration. shakehead

Thank you so much!!! Back in 1999 I had Rowasa suppositories. That was gross, and horrible. I'm hoping there is a clean-er alternative. I'm just sick of being sick! I'm afraid to take Prednisone because I really don't need the extra weight & symptoms. I also do not swallow pills at all, so I'm hoping whatever I can take could be liquid or suppositories. Ughhhhh!!!! So frustrating! I thought I was cured!

I can sympathize with you, as I am currently going through similar symptoms, and have been flaring since August, ugh! Hang in there, and be open to new medications, as this can be necessary. My flares were once controlled by Asacol alone, and now you can see how much crap I'm on now!! I think it's best to try new meds right away, before the flare is too out of control, and prednisone no longer works.
