Sorry to hear about
In the 1980's when I was in the hospital for just a couple days for anemia, the doctor arranged for me to get a room with a bathroom, since most hospital rooms did not have their own! (They have since torn that hospital down and built a new one). So I got an unused recovery room, with space for about
10 people, all to myself, but it had a bathroom. Ah, now I remember I told the doctor I would leave if I didn't have my own bathroom...
You could appeal it, but I probably would not bother and just go ahead and pay it. That's what money is for, to make life easier, in my view.
Fortunately most hospitals are now moving toward private rooms, for infection control reasons.
