Wondering if anyone could help me,
I can't tell if i'm am starting to flare or have some sort of stomach bug.
The stomach flu is spreading like wild fire thru my town and both my kids had
it.  Seems to be a week apart, but they had it with vomiting,Not much and was over quick with them....  I now have frequent stools, now turned to diarhea.. and have felt on and off nausous for the past 2 1/2 weeks?
am i losing it?  Maybe it was my horrible eating habits over the holidays?  or maybe it is the flu?   Still somewhat new to UC, any comments would help:)

When I got stomach flu last year, it was more than just D, I had a terrible fever that left me hot and cold and thrashing about all night in great misery. So much D I lost 8 lbs in one night, but then it was over in 24 hours.
Is that what your kids went through? I'm sure there are lots of different bugs we call stomach flu.
You've probably just caused your distress with food choices, hopefully you'll get back on track.

Ooh yeah, that's the worst. Sometimes I wonder if I have food poisoning, or a stomach flu, or am coming down with something, but then I always think "Well, it could just be the UC" and oftentimes it is. Sounds like in your case maybe you are starting to flare. I suppose I would keep an eye on it and see your doctor if you don't improve or start getting worse, if you feel you need a change in medication or anything.

I just had a severe bout of stomach flu a week ago... it only lasted two days and had me with a slight fever and vomiting a couple times on day 1, with nausea, bad headaches, extreme weakness, and up to 12-13 D a day for two days, and then finally went away on day 3.  However, it flared my UC afterward for about 5 days.  After the stomach flu was over, but when the UC flared in its aftermath, I bumped my prednisone up by 5 mg for one day and 2.5 mg for another and finally back to where I was, and now the UC also is back to where they were before the stomach flu.

Could easily be a combination of both...it's not unheard of to have a 24 hour flu bug that kick starts a flare...take in tons of fluids and if you're not taking probiotics then I'd get on a good one and fast.

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)

For me when I had the stomach flu, the hint was "D" to start. I had the flu twice once in August, and in November. But I got over it real quck. The one thing I've learned is that when you get sick it goes straight to the weak spot in your body. For us it is our digestive tract thanks to the UC. I can't say for sure if it is a flare, but it might for the pro longed "D." I'd just say time will tell.

A couple years ago my daughter gave me a stomach bug. I felt really horrible, nauseas, fatigue, slight joint pain, alot of D and an overall feeling of just ick. This stomach bug threw me into a flare in which ended with me starting on an immune suppressor. So yes, it can very well be a combination of both. Are you still only on Asacol? If so, maybe you should add a rectal med to the mix to get this possible flare under control.
