Hi All,

I have a couple questions around Fiber and vitamins...

First, is fiber intake ok for the body while having UC?  I have heard conflicting reports.  If so, how much should we be intaking a day?  I believe the daily intake is around 30mg...should we be at that level?

Also, should we be taking fiber supplements...if so what should I be looking for in Fiber supplments and what kind should I be getting?

Secondly, should I be taking vitamins to replace the lost nutrients that come out from all of the BM's?  If so, what kind of nutrients should I be looking for in vitamins?

Also, I heard that Chamomile Tea is good for you...has anyone heard this?

Thank you all for listening to all of my questions over the past week!

I take a heaping tablespoon of Metamucil orange smooth everyday with a tall glass of water and I find that it helps soooo much! Fibre is an excellent thing for our bodies and i find it regulates my BM's (as regular as they can get! lol). I also take a daily multi vitamin that is full of the vitamin B complex (which is super healthy for the colon). And lastly Chamomile is a soothing tea that contains lots of natural ingredients to sooth our symptoms... If I am feeling particularly crappy that day ( not necessarily flaring, but I'm sure it would be nice during a flare too...) I will have one to two mugs of chamomile tea and and pain seems to lessen....

I hope this helps you! All 3 things are very important regiments in my day :)

I take Metamucil daily as well. My dr. told me to ensure I'm taking Soluble fiber vs. Insoluble fiber. I also take a prescription vitamin (Ferrex) as blood tests showed my iron was low.

You'll need fiber supplements if you have issues with eating fiber. Fiber is good for the colon. Make sure you get plenty of fiber in your diet if you are don't have trouble eating it.

The fiber clearly makes me worse so I have to forego it. Everyone is different. Watch if the vitamins cause you trouble, too, my docs advise against them because of the "binders" in them but I don't know any more about exactly what the problem is. I bet there are some without the binders, but the vitamin industry is not regulated like drugs to you can't always tell.

August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed wheat/gluten, other intolerances; started diet without gluten, soy, dairy, tomato etc. Replete$$ probiotic powder, then Forte, now a stronger one (50 billion). Doing much better, but still having some bad days.
