Hi All,

After reading and posting a ton of threads, I have come to relalize that this illness is exremely individualized!!  Those of you that have read my previous posts have seen that Im a mid 20 guy who likes to have an occasional few drinks on the weekend, by no means do I drink everyday.  I noticed that Gluten affects UCers and also saw that Heineken was extremely low in Gluten (about .0005%).  Does this mean that Heineken should be a safe drink to have?

PS: Thank you all for replying to my posts furing my first week on these boards, it has helped a lot!!

I notice no effects from heinken. But do from other beers. Am waiting to try a true gluten free beer called redbridge. Ber rep at the bar is supposed to bring me samples. And when I emailed Heineken ( wish I would have saved that email ) they said that they couldn't say they were gluten free because there gluten used in the brewery for other products. They also stated that the possible gluten that could be in heinekin was well below national standards to be called gluten free. Either way it doesn't seem to effect me like other beers.

I had a couple a few nights ago, and I don't think it caused me more trouble than I've already been having.
I had been drinking the Redbridge, and now I realize tastes a little like Heineken but darker. It's a Anh-Busch product, so bars can get it. I liked New Grist better because it is lighter. Our liquor stores carry at least four different brands...but this is an earthy artsy college town...

Heineken light sound like a great choice for parties, but the bar didn't offer it.

Is Heineken Light any better for us UCers than regular Heineken?

What are some others that have given you guys/girls issues?

Heinekin light gave me no issues.... but tasted.... watery to me. Not bad mind you, no such thing as bad beer, but I personally preferred heinekin. Ann-busch products used to be my flavor of choice. one of the reasons I'm waiting to try redbridge.
Captain and ginger ale, also gives me no problems. Not a bad mix... tastes like vanilla.

it all depends on you and your individual system. Some can and some can't. Even those of us that can are very careful about how much we consume. Least I know I am. But it is nice to be able to go to the sports bar and watch a game and have a beer or two.

I decided to try Heinekin after talking to unclebubba. I actually had two yesterday while watching football and playing some darts. It's nice to be able to have 1 or 2 beers. Makes me feel "normal".
I found beers were bothering me before I started the meds. I haven't tried any besides Heineken since, but the one or two I've had don't seem to bother me. I guess the real test will be after I get off the pred more. It could be masking symptoms.
I don't have a gluten free diet tho, but I have tried cutting it back (ie substituting beers and pasta for gluten free). Don't know if it helps, but for now at least I feel like I'm doing something.

Thanks Bubba, I am def trying to limit myself. It was nothing for me to split a couple pitchers during a game, so 1 or 2 heinekens is just a treat. I won't have them more than 1 or 2 times a week either...just to be safe.
So far so good...but I'm def keeping a close eye. Too nervous to try another flavour...Probably won't until I haven't been flaring for quite a long time.
Thanks again.
