I am in the midst of a flare and in my misery last night was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for over-the-counter meds or home-remedies for symptom relief. I am experiencing bleeding, hard/small stools, stomach cramping/bloating and nausea. It is a weird flare because it is not accompanied by any diarrhea. I am feeling like I am going to have diarrhea, but when I try to "relieve" myself, nothing but a little bit of blood comes out.

I am going to phone my Dr. on Monday, but was hoping that some of you may have some ideas for symptom relief in the meantime.

TIA!

If you are experiencing bleeding, I wouldn't fool around with home remedies.

Update 11/03/08...finally in remission!!  Hope I don't jinx myself.  Off the prednisone since 11/01/08...now see if I can stay off for longer than two weeks.  Other meds: 6MP (75 mgm), colazal (6 per day), Benicar and Toprol (high blood pressure meds), Probiotic (2 per day), fish oil capsule and multi-vitamin and calcium with vitamin D.

Try a little heat, or a an ice pack. Some people prefer one, some the other, it's an individual thing.
I prefer cool, I think it relieves inflamation.

Asacol/5ASA 6x400 mg maintenance for 20+ years; use prednisone & Rowasa for flares.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed wheat/gluten, other intolerances; started diet without gluten, soy, dairy, tomato etc. Replete$$ probiotic powder, then Forte, now a stronger one (50 billion). Doing much better, but still having some bad days.
