Am I the only one who gained weight while flaring? I couldn't exercise due to being anemic, and I kept eating anti-inflammatory foods to calm my inflamed colon. After three months, I'm 8 pounds heavier and am having trouble fitting into my clothes.

it's the Lexapro (how long were you on it?)....and your age probably..which changes our shape once gravity takes hold.

Are you more bloated than having actual weight gain?

Did you have diarrhea for long periods of time?
How much were you underweight?

Welcome to middle age.

I was at a perfect weight before the flareup, neither underweight nor overweight.

I didn't gain weight from the Lexapro. I've been on it too long. I know why I gained weight. I stopped exercising, and I was eating a lot of chicken curry with rice.

I noticed everyone was complaining of losing weight and wanted to know if anyone gained weight during his/her flare.

I gained weight during my last flare too. That time it was because of the Prednisone. I lost the weight after I stopped taking Prednisone.

I just started going back to the gym. I think people must think I'm out-of-breath because I'm middle age. I'm out-of-breath because I lost a lot of blood, including a ton of blood clots. I really hate having Colitis.

Hey, I totally hear you about the lack of exercise thing! I'm in a bad flare at the moment, and am anemic, constipated and Vitamin D defficient. ...And I love physical exercise! I hate this disease because I love exercise, and at the moment, it is stopping me from doing anything remotely physical. For Christmas, my partner and I treated ourselves to a treadmill...( I love running!), and as of yet, I've been too ill to use it...

Also, just started on the Pred..and feel really tired all the time....is that another lovely side effect of that drug?

I only lose weight when I am flaring really bad b/c I lose my regular appetite. I'm the type of person who needs at least 3 square meals a day or else I lose rapidly.
So what I guess your saying is that your eating increased during your flare? That's strange, since I would think your bodies natural response would be to make you feel full or bloated in order to try and regulate your gut.

Yah. My eating increased during my flare. I loose my appetite only when I'm dehydrated, which happens only when I have diarrhea.

I did loose a bit of weight at the beginning of my flareup when I was having lots of diarrhea and still going to the gym. Then I stopped getting diarrhea and my eating increased. I was mixing probiotics with water and putting them up my butt, eating lots of anti-inflammatory foods with rice, and taking Beano and Lactaid. I was still loosing lots of blood though, especially since the BMs were bigger. I started feeling out-of-breath and stopped going to the gym. That's when I gained the weight.

The same thing happened during my second flare. Only I lost more weight and gained more weight. I was bedridden and passing 100% brown water and blood. That's when I lost quite a bit of weight. Then I gained all of the weight back plus some additional weight due to the Prednisone and not going to the gym.

Probably. I usually have tons of energy. However, I got so tired when I lost so much blood that I didn't notice whether or not Prednisone was a factor. It probably was though. The medicine takes it's toll on the body; so it makes sense that it would make the body tired.
