Hi all,

Just wondered of any of you pass mucus regularly without having a flare?
I get this a lot and sometimes am not flaring.  I have Proctitis and am fairly newly diagnosed.
I take Anusol HC suppositories which settled it down.

I do get this- there is no way I'm flaring right now, in any way, shape, or form! But sometimes I'll go to the bathroom & just pass a little mucous- I don't get any urgency, I don't feel like I need to have an actual bm, but if I push, there it is, some mucous. I don't know what to make of it. I've got to go see my GI in February, if I remember I'll mention it to him. Although come to think of it, it has lessened the past month or so. Did your GI recommend the Anusol? And are those over the counter meds?

diagnosed with UC '02
meds-
Asacol- 8 tabs/day
Remicade-10mgs/kg- since 4/07
Imuran- 150mgs/day
Culturelle
Fiber supplement

Mucus is my first sign that a flare is lurking behind the corner.

Update 11/03/08...finally in remission!!  Hope I don't jinx myself.  Off the prednisone since 11/01/08...now see if I can stay off for longer than two weeks.  Other meds: 6MP (75 mgm), colazal (6 per day), Benicar and Toprol (high blood pressure meds), Probiotic (2 per day), fish oil capsule and multi-vitamin and calcium with vitamin D.

Increased mucous can also be from the foods you eat. Sometimes some foods don't agree with our colon so our colons produce more mucous to get rid of the offending waste faster. Excess mucous can also be a sign of IBS which is fairly common for Ibd'ers to have as well.

I get mucus if I've eaten "something" that seems to create it. But, in general, if I do spot it more than once...meaning it's a bit in every bm, I'm sure to see increased other symptoms such as gas exploding in the rectum..a definite sign for a soon to be flare.

My GI prescribed the anusol, he said it would take down the inflammation caused by the proctitis.
I often just pass mucus. I wonder if I do have IBS also.
