Some research being done at my alma mater:
UNL Researchers Unlocking Digestive System's Secrets
They are looking into gut bacteria. I'd be interested where the money is coming from. Looks like from USDA and NIH, but I just wonder because around here, companies like Monsanto and ADM pump a lot of money into research for genetically modified foods (or as I say, phoods.) They are looking to create the perfect "designer foods" (from the article) not to help people, but to make money. Just like Danon yogurt's marketing scheme about the cure-all active cultures in their yogurt.
And we have a lot of corn around here and we like to use it for everything! Some good, some not so good (anyone seen those new commercials by the Corn Growers Association defending HFCS?)
But hopefully something good comes out of it.
