I'm new to the forum, but not UC.  I was diagnosised in 2002.  Rowasa Enemas were used every year to year and half because I hardly any flare-ups.  I realized, from reading so much research, that this disease is all trail and error. I stay away from coffee, leafy greens and fake sugars.
My flare-ups have been at their worst since May 2008.  I am now taking Lialda (4 pills a day) along with a folic acid vitamin.  I have chronic sinus infections and try my best to do without antibiotics.  Sometimes, I have no choice but to take antibiotics which always leads to flare up that does not disppear until I use Rowasa for a month's time (really annoying)  Over the summer, I didn't respond to Rowasa for the first time in 6 years.  I became anemic and lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks.  In hindsight, I probably should have been hospitalized because I was trying to do ordinary things like walk to the car....and needed to lay down to rest. My dr was on vacation, so I saw his partner.  He gave me steroids and my symptoms improved, but didnt totally go away.  Mucous seems to be always present.  How do I get rid of that????
I started using Birth Control Pills in April 2008.  I am wondering if you think there is a connection between BC and UC???  I really hope not.
I'm actually starting Rowasa again tonight and hoping in a month, I'm improved.....

My firend, a recently graduated Physicians Assistant told me there is a known connection bet the 2. Now, I don't know what that info is worth, though she mentioned learning that UC can flare when birth control is stopped.

Anyone else?

I know we don't have a good search tool. But can we please try to use older posts instead of creating new ones when possible so that we don't have to repeat everything?
