I think my issues w/loss of appetite come from 6MP not the disease itself.  I never had loss of appetite until I started 6MP, 2 years ago.  Anyway, I don't have it every day but several days out of the week.  Nothing sounds good, it's hard to force myself to eat.  I was just curious if others suffer from this.

My friends joke that I should be happy to not have an appetite since it would be great for weightloss..lol.  However, I'm underweight as it is so it's really not a side effect I like having.

Yeah, I have days where I just don't feel like eating either and like you, I force myself to eat. I can't really blame the 6mp for this though since I've always had a loss of appetite even before 6mp. But I was always flaring too so maybe that contributed to it. I do, however, get more nauseas since starting 6mp. It hits me rather suddenly at times.

Thankfully I never get nausea from UC or from 6MP. The loss of appetite sucks so bad. We eat out a few times a week and it's horrible to stare at a menu where the sky is the limit and I could have anything to eat and not one thing sounds good.

Glamourgirl-
Since I upped the 6MP to 75mg I have been getting more and more nauseated. At times, I just don;t feel like eating. In my case though, this isn't a bad thing since I am about 60 lbs. overweight. Thanks Pred.... In your case, as long as you are not nauseated, you should make yourself eat something even if it is a protein shake.

Are you going to go up to 100 mg on the 6MP? If my bloodwork is ok this week,my doctor will up my dose. The goal is to get off the pred.

Good luck.

No, I'm only 128 lbs, I think 100 mg. is way too strong for me. I did try it last year and it killed my appetite 100% so I went back to 75 mg. I'd love to drink protein shakes but they all taste like liquid vitamins to me...yuck! That's the thing, when I don't want to eat food, drinking actually sounds good. I'll usually drink V-8 or orange juice but I would rather do a shake but I just don't like the taste of them.

Yeah, this disease makes me basically anorexic at times. But you know, I don't skip meals because I'm afraid of getting fat, but I skip meals because I'm afraid of the aftermath, the pain and bathroom trips. It's like my mind and body have built up an aversion to food altogether. And most of the time I'm not even hungry- yesterday I got home from work at 9pm and was cooking dinner and realized I hadn't eaten a single thing all day and was really confused because I wasn't the least bit hungry. Not healthy in the slightest, I know, but it's just hard to eat normal anymore.
