for me I guess it means going a few times a day w/some blood.  Arrgh!
I'm on cellcept for my kidneys and cross your fingers, knock on wood, rub a magic seems to be working.  I will know when if I am able to get off pred w/out relapsing.
Problems is, I cant take any 5ASA's (that's what got me kidney disease) and I cant be on any immune supressor while on cellcept b/c that is an immune suppressor, so I can't take remi or humira or imuran while on it.
Will be going to see GI.  I already take probiotics, the refridgerated primodolphious reutiri (sp?) nature's way, 2 pills a day.  Anything else non-traditional anyone can recommend?
Beth, 33 ~ hoping to taper pred successfully, wish me luck!
Major Flare Sept/Oct 07.  Flare May 08 (from aspirin?).
UC dx'd 03/00 Proctosigmoiditis; Pancolitis since 09/07
Can't take anything b/c I am on Cellcept for my kidneys (can possibly help UC) Calcium and Vit D 500mg 3xday, Multi Vit, Folic Acid 400mg 2xday, Prilosec, Probiotics.
Minimal Change Disease (Kidney Disorder) dx'd 09/07. Close to remission since 9/08.
Cellcept 1000mg 2xday, Prednisone 10mg 1xday, Lipitor 20mg 1xday, Diovan 160mg 2xday. Tekturna 300mg 1xday, Fosomax 70mg 1xweek. MCD may be from hypersensitivty to 5ASA drugs (sulfasalazine, asacol).  Do you have edema? If so, check your blood protien level!

What about some suppositories? If you can't do the canasa, maybe try the anucort ones? (although they are a steroid again)

Ugh. I hope someone else has some better suggestions.

What a bummer!

Hi, Beth! I had just been thinking of you because you had not posted in a while. Great that the Cellcept is helping your kidneys!!!!!!!!! As for the "small flare", you'll hopefully get good advice from the Boston gastro. Maybe you could use Cortifoam for a while if the rectum is inflamed. Best wishes for 2009, may it bring you relief from these nagging conditions. / Old Hat (nearly 30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

You could try the rest of my regime (I too take the primadophilus reuteri made by natures way), bee propolis (immediately stopped all my bleeding and lower back pain and cut my BM's from 30/day down to half that amount), fibre supplements, omegas 3-6-9, Vitamins C-Calcium Ascorbate (easy on the gut and vitamin C is known for reparing cells) and vitamin A and drink chamomile tea every day as well.

If you decide to try the bee propolis be sure you're not allergic to bees and the chamomile, be sure you're not allergic to ragweed.

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)

Beth...which GI do you go to in Boston? I just went to Dr. Cheifetz at BI.

He recommended taking aloe vera pills and curcumin.  ...said there was limited data but had heard of some success.

Wishing you well!!
