I just need to vent a bit. I've been doing really well, exercising and feeling better ovr the past 3 weeks. I have gained about 15lbs due to Lexapro and not exercising b/c of fibro pain. Yesterday someone at work asked me if I was PREGNANT mad !!! I was SO angry. So today guess what...bleeding and D...FLARE. I guess I'll be dropping weight now (the wrong way cry ).

I'm hoping this is just a quick flare or an aggrivation from something I ate (hot salsa). I was taking some high dose vitamins and those made me bleed in the past. I stopped taking them so we'll see what happens in the next few days. I'm also taking my iron again to avoid the anemia fatigue.

Yes, it sucks indeed.

Were you still on the suppositories? and taking the Colazal daily?

I don't know how distressed you might be during the holiday season, but sometimes the symptoms we don't recognise are ones we tend to ignore.

I flare wouldn't happen overnight....

It's possible that some preparations in some vitamins may increase the immune system. That, plus if you were exercising in an extreme sense might have triggered some response.

I had 3 colds since the end of October...plus back probems, etc (which is a norm for me)....but I was taking Cold-FX and echinacea...plus being super busy with clients and the stress of Christmas..had me in a flare. Very slight, but I did bleed a tiny bit..I was totally humbled and horrified because basically...I don't bleed during flares since forever.

Although the bleeding went after a few days starting the rectal meds nightly and I've tapered quite quickly...I think realising how much a reved up immune system can do is something that's subjective, but still a valid issue in dealing with our own flares.

You have diarrhea...that could mean you also have IBS...but if it's continual with urgency and bleeding in the mix...it's probably a flare that's a bit higher than just the rectum.

I would suggest that it's possible the suppositories aren't enough and you should consider to ask for the retention enemas. At best with the suppositories..you could stack them..inserting one after the other.

Vent away....it all sucks flaring...although, I'd rather a flare than a cold. Clearly, I know what to do for a flare better than a cold..lol!

Hope you feel better soon!

I've been taking all my meds. I think the vitamins had something to do with it. I've been pretty moderate in my exercise but you never know because my mind still thinks I can run 10Ks and light intensely.

I do have the urgency and have been pushing a lot so I could have stirred up my lovely hemmeroid friends sad I've got physical therapy today. I guess I'll tell them to take it easy on me. I'm a bit weak today anyway. If this doesn't go away in a few days I'll call teh GI doc.

Regarding someone thinking you were pregnant - are you sure it was from weight gain? I have had people think I was pregnant but more because I always complain of being naseaus in the morning or not drinking alcohol, or having a sensitive sense of smell, etc. I doubt 15 pounds would be that noticeable unless it is all in the gut.
27 Year old married female law student (last year!!). Diagnosed w/ CD 4 years ago, IBS for over 10 years before that, which was probably the CD. I am sort of lactose intollerant too but can handle anything cultured and do well w/ lactose pills and lactaid. For crohns I am currently on Pentasa 4 pills/4x day and hysociamine prn. I also have bad acid reflux and have been on PPI's since age 13. I have been through prilosec, prevacid, and nexium. Currently I am on Protonix in the morning and Zantac at night. I also take a birth control pill to allow some fun in my life.

Yeah, when I was younger I used to get that, when you pass on alcohol but they know you drink, and you get kinda swollen from steroids, and have you to use the restroom a lot...it's a reasonable assumption!

Hi Dee,

Sometimes people ask because they notice the person gained some weight. It doesn't have to be much. I asked my daughter if she was pregnant when I noticed she gained a few pounds. (She's really thin.) Turns out she was. I'm sure if the person thought you were having weight issues, she wouldn't have asked. And if she did know, then she isn't worth getting upset over.

P-fit...well, hemmies for me and flaring seem to go hand in hand....do consider to discuss with the doc to put you on the retention enemas rather than just the supps..

How does your period cycle fit into this recent flare?

Maybe take your vitamins every two days?

Curious...what exactly are all the ingredients in your vitamins..or better yet..which ones are you taking?

People in my office are just very nosey and stupid. Appparently this rumor started in April of 07 when I got taken out in an ambulance due to almost fainting (flare caused a lot of blood loss). I have gained most of the 15lbs in my gut and I'm 5'4 so more than 5lbs is noticeable on my frame. I have 3 kids alredy and gained a ton with each so when I gain weight the skin that is already loose tends to show more, plus I hear being on the antidepressant causes you to gain in the middle.

Some people are sensitive to changes in others. I recently found out my mom was diagnosed with Cancer and between that and the two kids under 4, I just haven't been sleeping alot lately. Coming in with bags under my eyes I told a co-worker that her breakfast smelled horrible (she's a very good friend of mine) and she told me later she thought I might be pregnant. It actually irked me so much I went and bought a test, but I wasn't thank goodness. Maybe she didn't mean it in a bad way, women who have children love to find out when other women are having children... it's a weird physchological "girl club" thing and maybe she was excited for you and wanted to share something with you?? I dunno. It was tacky nonetheless.

I hope you're not in a flare up though :(
