I have been taking fish oil capsules for a few days now. Not really for UC although it has benefits, but mainly to try and better my diet and fill the food gaps with supplements.
Anyone feel like they're burping fish all day long?? Any way to alleviate this or options? Can Flax seed oil be taken in lieu of fish oil? I mean I feel like I want to lose my cookies every time I smell my breath, ugh.

You have to drink lots of water when taking fish oil supplements or you'll get the fishy burps.

Some brands are better than others. Some even claim not to cause any fishy burps. Some are flavored so any burping tastes better, if that makes sense. Paying more for a quality brand is helpful for me. Also, taking with meals seems to help me.

Flax oil can be used as a source of omega3. I use it in my soup. I also take Udo's by the spoonful with a meal.
Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis spring 1999.
Maintenance dose sulfasalazine. Probiotics, l-glutamine, vitamin D and fish oil caps. George's aloe vera juice. Oregano oil antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal. Mostly grain-free and dairy-free diet. Long-term remission with only minor blips.

My reflux keeps me from taking fish oil. I tried several brands, some enteric coated, and I burped "fishy" no matter what. No way, no how, will I be taking those again. But my reflux is rather extreme.

Have you tried an enteric coated brand?

I use one from puritans pride online, their omega 3-6-9 and it's a big gel cap, as long as I drink enough water with it then no fishy burps...which is good because it's a good reminder to drink enough water with any pills you take.

I take the enteric coated Fisol brand that is available at Vitamin Shop and Wholefoods- they claim it is much better absorbed. In my case it definitely never causes either the burping or fish breath, whereas non-enteric capsules certainly do that to me.

I do get those burps, but they don't bother me much. Hell I eat a ton of fish, so I'm acclimated to the taste. I'm surprised I haven't died from mercury poisoning.

I get fish burps too....  They taste great with coffee.
On the note of Flax oil - I have been taking flax oil pills with great results.  I currently take 1x fish oil and 1x flax oil both in the AM and before bed.

I take the Costco enteric-coated and I never have fishy burps. I also keep them in the freezer for good measure - that might help with the burps as well as the flavor.
