I've started using Proctofoam for the first time, just once a day at night. So far (touch wood!), the results seem to be good!

The doctor has instructed me to use this (along with Pentassa suppositories) for 5 weeks..

I was just wondering, are there any side-effect for use of Proctofoam? As he has told me to use it for only 5 weeks, I'm guessing that there is....also, after that 5 weesks, do you think he will put me back on Asacol for maintanence? ( He's told me to stop the Asocol for now.....)

Thanks everyone.

Ontario-girl.  There you are!  Sorry, I have not much to offer in the way taking Pentassa, I'm not taking anything else by Asacol at the moment.

How are you doing now?  Was thinking about you, hoping for things to work out for you!  Glad to see you're now taking other meds as well.

Hey Kat!

Thanks for asking about me! To be honest (fingers crossed I don't jinx myself here...)..the Proctofoam and suppositories combination seem to be working! BM's looking much better, hardly any blood or mucous now and it's only been a week!

Follow-up appointment with GI doctor on 3rd Feb, will see the extent of my current flare then...

Just a bit worried now that the flare will come back once I stop the Foam! sad But I guess, only time will tell...

Out of interest, how long have you been taking Asacol? I see you're in a flare too...hope you get better soon.

Yep, I'm still in a flare.  It does seem to be sort of slowing down, I think? But it sure doesn't help when you have co-workers and family members saying, geez are you ever getting skinny! I have no more butt, it fell off! LOL   My parents think it's just stress or piles or hemorroids, it's hard to explain to them, they don't understand.  They ask how do people get it?

I'm trying real hard to do without prednisone.  But I'm still wavering on it.  Part of it is because I'll  never know if indeed I could've went into a remission with or without it.  It's probably a real quick solution to this, as it was for me the last time in 2004, but I just hate the side effects, especially the emotional roller coaster while on them.  My weight hangs around 118 to 115 lbs.

I suppose all it would take is a call to the doctor and he would prescribe it for me, then I'd probably just look at the bottle.  So that's where I'm at.

Ooops, forgot to mention, I started taking asacol the very first day the UC came back on Oct 29.08, tapered onto it 1 (400 mg) pill every 6 hours then 2 every 6 hours, (8 pills per day) total intake per day 3200 mg/day.

I'm now going in to the 12th week of UC/taking asacol.  I just notice a headache once in a while, so I take one 250 mg regular tylenol (acetaminophen), my second time since Oct 29.08 otherwise just go through a headache if it's not too bad.
