My Dr. has asked me to write a bm journal (consistency, frequency, blood/no blood, cramping/no cramping, urgency...). Not too sure what he will earn from my journal...

Has anyone else had to do this?

when my husband was flaring so badly we kept a log and brought it to the Dr's office for him to look over -- when you are living with it day in and day out and you are in the Dr's office trying to answer all kinds of questions the log/journal helps.

What we also did was also keep track of the foods being eaten as well to see if there was any connection insofar as urgency and frequency were concerned on subsequent BM's

a bm and food diary is essential if you want to make any connections to what you eat and your lifestyle.  I also record briefly how I felt that day and what I did especially how much exercise I got.  It really is useful give it a go.

Diagnosed mild-moderate UC 1999
Previously sulfasalazine, prednisone, steroid enema, currently 8 asacol daily mildly flaring off and on.  Experimenting with diet.  I really miss chocolate!

I keep a daily food journal, what I did for exercise, where I was (I travel a lot for my job) as well as indicate when I get a flare.  No detailed BM info but it does sound like a good idea.

I keep a detailed Bm/excercise journal as well as a detailed Food/BM journal. My GI recomended it. He has me sum each day up with a red pen and when I see him he actually read the summaries to get a feel for how I'm doing. If I had a really bad day the he reads the black pen writing to see if there was a reason. Actually we talked about combining both journals into one see how that worked. I keep track of med times in the food journal also.
