Yes, darnit, yes, I take nsaids. They are lovely things. In my body, they are like mood elevator, fatigue buster and pain reliever all rolled into one. Then there is also the small thrill of the illicit kind when I take them because they are taboo. ;)

I cannot prove that they do not cause problems with my uc, but when I take them I notice no change in my symptoms. I also do not take them often. Probably 1 -2 a week. More when I have a migraine or with bad joint pain. I am stalwart in my opinion that, for me, the risk is worth the benefit.
UC diagnosed 10/05, first symptoms 1983
asacol 12/daily and rowasa as needed
Trying out Culturelle Probiotic
past rx: colozal, lialda, canasa
i can't complain, but sometimes i still do.  lifes been good to me so far.  -joe walsh

I do take Naproxen daily, with my GI's knowledge and approval. I have severe joint and tendon involvement, and every time I try to lower the Naproxen, within one day I can't even walk. So far they haven't caused any problems, but I always take them with food.

I take two Aleve about once a week, sometimes twice a week, for headaches. It's the only thing that stops my headaches and it does not cause any noticeable change in my UC symptoms. My GI said it was okay to take them once in a while if I don't notice any adverse effects.
Diagnosed with UC March 2007; Asacol 4 tablets 3x/day; Rowasa; Canasa; Viactiv; Metamucil wafers; multivitamin; sublingual allergy drops

I take oxycodone, very judiciously, when my lower back/sciatic is really bothering me. I think, but I'm not sure, it doesn't affect my UC. Otherwise, for the last month or two I had to take an Aleve every day or I was miserable, but I think it irritated things and I noticed more bleeding. My back is better now and I'm glad to be able to avoid taking either one.

August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed wheat/gluten, other intolerances; started diet without gluten, soy, dairy, tomato etc. Replete$$ probiotic powder, then Forte, now a stronger one (50 billion). Doing much better, but still having some bad days.

NSAIDs promote bleeding in the bowels and arre especially dangerous for those with IBD...KSU ask your GI about them and go by what he says.

Have taken hydrocodone and other pain meds similar w/ no side effects. I take Excedrine for headaches - the asprin in there can cause issues, but it is needed for my nasty migraines....nothing else works...

If you do take an Nsaid, just watch your symptoms. If you notice your stool becoming looser or you start noticing blood then stop it ASAP. Nsaids do promote intestinal bleeding but some Uc'ers can actually take them with no trouble. I can't take Nsaids because I am an easy bleeder. I have tried in the past but with no luck.

I take nsaid everyday for my arthritis. What I have done is reduced the amount taken to get a balance , something that will help my joints but not upset IBS.

my body can't handle them anymore. I used to take Ibu dailey...max dose.. for joint and such pain. I can't take them anymore. My bleeding stopped when I quit taking them. Now I take cortisone shots instead... painfull as hell when they stick that needle into that joint... but effective. Yes I know those shots are a downward spiral, but my knee is already bone on bone. Due for a knee replacement eventually, just tryint to hold that off as long as possible. Am only 38. If I knew I would live this long I would have treated my body better, lol. Less rodeoing... less horse breaking and training. LOL
Would have quit bouncing in the bars along time ago. LOL. Have finally realized I am old. I don't bounce anymore, I don;t rodeo anymore, and I only ride good horses now. LOL.

I tried for pain from a sport but stopped the Aleve as soon as i had bad BM :(

Sara14 - great you found something to relieve the headache....btw, have you tried Excedrin(w/ Caffeine) for your headaches? Also, Head-On, homeopathic rub on looks like a chapstick, both help me

Convoy - No, I haven't tried Excedrin. I've read that Excedrin can cause rebound headaches b/c of the caffeine, so I've tried to stay away from that, but if the Aleve ever stops working, I will keep that in mind. I've heard of Head-on, but never tried it. I will look into that, too. Thanks for the suggestions! =)

My regular doc said the oxycodone should not cause bleeding like Aleve does/might. But it's not one to take for the long-term, I would think.
