chris has been flaring for about a week. went to the GI yesterday and she prescribed prednisone and imuran. problem is we have some sort of respritory infection (hacking up green goblins with no other symptoms). so should we wait to start the immunosuppressants after the coughing disease is gone? he is not on any antibiotics. at first i had my UC blinders on and just wanted to fix the poop problem, but now i'm seeing the bigger picture and worry about making the infection worse.

Yes, have him checked out for infections by your family doc, have him start on antibiotics if necessary before starting an immune suppressing medication. The immune suppression from these medications don't happen overnight but it's best to start on this med "healthy" to be on the safe side.
