This is a pretty new one to me.  In the last month or so I've had some real problems swallowing.  I used to be able to get all my morning meds down in one gulp, but now I'm swallowing them one at a time with tons of water, and some of them still get caught in my throat.  Once they are stuck, I can't wash 'em down with anything...water gets into my throat but then comes back up, food doesn't even go down no matter how well chewed.  I'm sitting here right now feeling like I've got a rock lodged in my throat from pills I took 2 hours ago.  It isn't causing any problem with breathing, so it is not like I'm choking or any thing.  The problem isn't just with pills either.  I was eating Rice Crispies of all things and it felt like they got lodged in my throat...Rice Crispies!  Any one else have problems remotely like this?

I had difficulty swallowing, thought, hmm well isn't that odd. Then it got progressively worse and then I felt like I had a painful lump in my throat all the time. Sort of like something was lodge in there. I mentioned this to my GI and he said it was from acid reflux. He prescribed me Prilosec and I haven't had that problem since.

Prilosec is available OTC right? Maybe I'll give it a try. Do you have to take it every day?

Absolutely reflux....I had the same thing..even to the point of my voice getting hoarse.

I'd firstly try Zantac....my personal choice, however.

Yes it's OTC and that typical dosing is to use it for 2-3 weeks but I have been on it for almost 2 years now because I can't get off it. If I stop I get severe abdominal pains and nausea. But I think I have something else going on and I am going to ask my GI to do an endo at my next scheduled c-scope.

Wow Sherry...didn't realise the symptoms if you stop the reflux meds were that extreme. Good you're going to have the upper series done...

Thanks for the info. Sherry, I hope you find out what else is going on. It's no fun knowing that if you stop a med you'll feel horrible.
