Well, thursday I came home and after a BM it became clear that I was starting to flare again. I had gotten some of the symptoms in the week past (Bad gas, diarrhea), but those had both gone away and I thought it was just part of the cold I had had. But seeing blood in toilet again, there is only one thing it could be. And it wasn't just a hint of blood, it was full blown "looks like someone gut a human over the toilet bowl" type event.

Anyway, I ended up becoming violently ill and threw up for most of the day (Though...er...that was probably my fault. I panicked and took some extra medication that I probably shouldn't have). I knew I was going to call the gastroenterologist in the morning and steeled myself to start back up pred.

Then the weird thing happened...yesterday I woke up and felt, more or less, fine. No nausea and overwhelming urges to go. In fact, after the two bloody BMs on thursday, I haven't had another BM at ALL (going on 2 days now). At first I thought it may be because I basically lost everything my digestive tract that first day with the diarrhea and throwing up...but...when I flared the first time I wasn't eating or drinking much and still went 10+ times a day.

I have been eating little, and been trying to eat only stuff that was easy to digest when I have eaten (Oatmeal, rice, yogurt) but...well, this has never happened to me before. I have only flared once, when I was first diagnosed, and this whole...episode is so foreign and scary in a way. I haven't felt any other symptoms that I can link to that. I have a minor headache, but I've put that down to caffeine withdraw (multiple sodas a day usually, down to none since thursday). Other than that really, I feel fine.

I wanted to see what was going to happen before I talked to the doctor but now I am not sure if I should call or not. Poor+No insurance means I really need to stick to as few visits as possible.

Has anyone had anything like this before?

If you havn't had a BM in 2 days GO SEE A DOCTOR

You might have a stricture, or could be getting the start of a toxic mega colon.

Neither of those are fun.

OK, now I am terrified. I will contact the doctor tomorrow.

On the plus side, so far at least I have no abdominal pain, no real bloating, no fever or tachycardia or any other symptoms of septic shock...

Ugh...

Constipation can also be a sign of inflammation. If you are inflammed in there, you may not be able to get any stool out. I have had consipation in the past as well. One time I didn't go for nearly 6 days and I had to resort to Miralax per my docs instructions. But it's good if you are seeing a doctor because if you had that much blood, it can mean something is definately brewing.

I cannot explain why you bled but you could have had a stomach virus.  My daughter was very sick last week with it...diarrhea, stomach pain, etc...it lasted about a day and a half.  She doesn't have UC, so no blood.  Let's keep our fingers crossed that was all that it was.

Update 11/03/08...finally in remission!!  Hope I don't jinx myself.  Off the prednisone since 11/01/08...now see if I can stay off for longer than two weeks.  Other meds: 6MP (75 mgm), colazal (6 per day), Benicar and Toprol (high blood pressure meds), Probiotic (2 per day), fish oil capsule and multi-vitamin and calcium with vitamin D.

Did you drink alcohol? What you describe is what happens to me when I drink hard liquor.
Except for the then no BM for days, that NEVER happens to me. So...see your doc.

One thing that is really throwing me for a loop, is that I would be expecting...I don't know...some abdomen pain? Bloating? Soreness? SOMETHING feeling wrong. That is what I think is most disturbing to me. If I felt terrible I would at least understand something terrible was going down.
