I was instructed by my NP to stay on a low residue/low fiber diet until in remission (which has been months now without remission).  I pretty much eat when was listed on the diet.  I also have IBS and a few diverticuli pockets.  I am not sure about helping but seems to be ok for me.  I do know that when I eat high fiber anything I get a LOT of gas!!

Yep, works for me.  I had to follow it for quite awhile last year while in a seven month flare.  My nutritionist and the GI doctor both recommended this.  Good luck!

Update 11/03/08...finally in remission!!  Hope I don't jinx myself.  Off the prednisone since 11/01/08...now see if I can stay off for longer than two weeks.  Other meds: 6MP (75 mgm), colazal (6 per day), Benicar and Toprol (high blood pressure meds), Probiotic (2 per day), fish oil capsule and multi-vitamin and calcium with vitamin D.

I did a low residue diet during the worst part of my flare - no red meat either. LOL one day I felt half way decent and ate a homemade hamburger - it was melt in your mouth good! However, next day.......grrrrrr I suffered! Now who's fault was that?!

I was instructed by GI low residue and if you can't see thru it don't drink it.

Wishing you the best!

Thanks everyone!

Gigi1227 I have read that lean red meat with no gristle is ok to eat, but you found no red meat at all to be better then??? I really want to do this the right way and if it helps best, then I think I might give it a shot ( I love steak so much though! LOL)...
