it's been 10 days since i have started using canasa suppositories.
The first 2-3 days the mucus disappeared and i was feeling much better already....was happy. On 4th day we went out for lunch, that food gave both me and my husband bad stomach/constipation. SInce then i hv been bleeding and there is pain and discomfort while sitting. It has been 7 days since that lunch and things are not improving despite taking canasa 1000 nightly. With canasa mucus is gone but i m having blood & discomfort (slight pain) (i had already stopped bleeding without any medication 2 weeks back)

I was wondering m i having a flare up due to food OR is canasa giving me a flare up?
Also, my GI asked me to avoid having constipation & that is what i m having since that lunch day - incomplete emptying of my stomach!

Has anyone had similar experience?
Symptoms since Nov'2008:Mucus & Blood in stools, Gas, Constipation sometimes - No D !
Visited GI first time in Jan'09 first week, followed by Sigmoidoscopy/biopsy following week, results show inflammation. Started Canasa suppositories! Avoid dairy, taking calcium supplements. Also have Hypothyroid

It is very possible that whatever you ate aggravated your symptoms.  Aren't you on any other medications for UC?

Update 11/03/08...finally in remission!!  Hope I don't jinx myself.  Off the prednisone since 11/01/08...now see if I can stay off for longer than two weeks.  Other meds: 6MP (75 mgm), colazal (6 per day), Benicar and Toprol (high blood pressure meds), Probiotic (2 per day), fish oil capsule and multi-vitamin and calcium with vitamin D.

Yes! Canasa 1000 nightly is the only med. my GI has told me to start with.
Though there has been relief- no mucus but there is that burning sensation since past 5-6 days with blood... difficult to sit! the food i had that day was something i usually have and never ever before had any problem with it. so i was wondering if i m blaming food when canasa is not suiting me.

Just wanted to know if anybody else also had increased blood with burning within 3-4 days use of canasa? (my main problem is gas & mucus...but right now it is blood & pain, while gas & mucus is reduced)

When I have been flaring to the point of having both blood and mucus Canasa alone has never cleared up my symptoms.  I have always had to take something else with the Canasa...  I personally have never had a burning sensation, I have had a sensation of pressure and discomfort...also soreness from going to the bathroom and wiping multiple times a day...  I would call your doctor because you may need something else along with the Canasa.  My biggest mistake in the past was to let bleeding and other symptoms continue too long...then the flares got totally out of control!
Dx 2006 right after the birth of my daughter
Lialda now down to 1 pill a day!
Canasa on and off as needed

I totally agree with thatfield.  I was on prednisone, 6MP, Colazal, Cort enemas and Canasa suppositories before I finally went into remission after a seven month flare.
