So I'm on the second day of my period and I am doing HORRIBLE. I am so nauseous, I've had some dry heaving and diarrhea, and 2 extra strength Tylenol only lasts me 4 hours. I had gotten miserable periods like this last year when I was on birth control, but I'm not on bc pills now. When I went to the gynecologist last year and told her about this, she prescribe a different type of bc pill! And I'm not ever taking bc pills again; I'm pretty sure that's what triggered my flare last year. I feel awful and I don't know what else to do. Any ideas?

On a slightly different note, my mom may have to get endometrial ablation. Has anyone had that done before?

Sorry to hear you're doing badly. I don't have any ideas for you except to call your doctor. I just started taking the pill again a week ago. I hope I don't react this way. I used to take it before UC, and it made my periods shorter and got rid of my cramps. I never had any problems with it then.
Diagnosed with UC March 2007; Asacol 4 tablets 3x/day; Rowasa; Canasa; Viactiv; Metamucil wafers; multivitamin; sublingual allergy drops

Your periods alone can cause your symptoms to exacerbate, they definitely do for me and I'm not on the pill, when I was on the pill it never made much of a difference either...hormones play their role with exacerbating IBD symptoms for many women. I'm actually going to talk to my family doc about stopping my periods all together, I'm about 10 yrs close to menopause anyways, done having kids, don't need my stupid monthly's anymore especially since they make my IBD symptoms a hundred times worse, just before they come, during and just after they're gone, so if I'm lucky I get about 1 okay week in a month.

Ugh, I just vomited my breakfast and lunch. As gross as it was, I feel a little better. I called my university's health center and they said a virus is going around. But I really think it has to do with my period, since I've had problems before (even though that was only when I was on bc pills). The thing is though I never had problems with nausea or vomiting during my period until I took bc pills last year; when I got off of them, I had slight nausea sometimes, but today has been full-force nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Between horrible periods and UC, I have no idea how I'll be able to deal with "real life." Right now I can skip classes whenever I'm sick, but how will I ever be able to work 40 hours per week? And I have no idea what to do as a career because of this stupid disease! I'm so sick of being sick.

I don't have any ideas about bathroom troubles, but I found on www.apple-cider-vinegar-benefits.com that mixing some ACV with 8 oz. of water (I prefer honey) in the morning can help with female problems.

if it's really severe pain/problems I would definitely contact your doctor.

good luck

I'm doing better now, but this is so annoying. I'll look into the apple-cider-vinegar thing.

I'm afraid that if I mention this to my doctor, she's just going to recommend bc pills, which I do NOT want to take.

You could try fresh ginger and chamomile tea as well, chamomile is known for aiding with mentral cramps (even researchers will back this up) and ginger is also well known for aiding with nausea and tummy troubles, I say give them both a shot.
