Hi all

I have been reading posts for a while and have found this forum so informative and helpful , I think you guys are amazing. I havent posted before, but have a question that I wondered if anyone can help with, particularly those of you in the UK.  I have UC, and have been in remission for over a year (fab!), but am still on 125mg of Azathioprine, which obviously effects my immune system.

Last weekend, I travelled 250 miles to visit my very sick Grandfather in hospital, admitted with a heart attack, got progressively worse with an infection.  I found out today that it is MRSA, the hospital apparently knew this a week ago, despite us visiting daily, and phoning twice a day too, they didnt let us know! Whilst, of course I don't regret having visited him, if I had known it was MRSA, I may well not have been kissing him, feeding him, and wiping out his dry mouth when he was nil by mouth.

My question is, have I put myself at risk, should I be getting myself checked out?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can advise

Hi

I think the best thing to do is just be more aware of your self for the next couple of weeks.  If anything seems strange, if you feel a little odd, if you get red bumps on your trunk or have a small cut that is taking its time healing, go get checked.  My son had MRSA, we did not know at first, I was touching it and checking it before it was confirmed... I was on 6MP and pred at the same time.  I just kept myself washed and used alot of hand sanitizer ( I always do anyway).I never developed it.

I wish you to best.  Try not to worry.  Glad you saw your grandfather.  Just be aware.

Chris
