Spluxa I endorse your view. Even I would come to know about the flare ups well in advance. Infact one can feel a strage bubble sound from the left side of abdomin and would come to know that the bleeding has started or is about to start. It is kind of a leak in the balloon.

Spluxa. Let me tell you how it sounds. Have you seen a flat tube being tested for puncture in a water tub, or when you thrown a something in water. It creates a sound when the air bubbles hit the water. It is the same sound when the colon is leaking/or the intestinal walls are bleeding. They alongwith mucous and bile juices react and make funny sounds. :-) yeah smilewinkgrin

Bloating and discomfort after eating is often caused by an imbalance of gut ecology - which many, if not all, IBDers have to some extent. An overgrowth of candida is common. When you eat simple carbs and sugars, these feed the candida causing gas and bloating, among other symptoms.

Of course, many foods and chemicals can also cause gas and bloating. Here's a partial list:

Diagnosed with ulcerative colitis spring 1999.

Maintenance dose sulfasalazine. Probiotics, l-glutamine, vitamin D and fish oil caps. George's aloe vera juice. Oregano oil antibiotic, antiviral, antifungal. Mostly grain-free and dairy-free diet. Long-term remission with only minor blips.

I don't think it gas and bloating...I think it's something different. However, you might be right. BTW, sometimes, diagestive enzymes are really helpfull.

kheal...that's a classic symptom of low in the rectum inflammation...that's one of my first symptoms if I'm suspecting a flare. If it's continual and I have some constipation (feeling), then more urgency with bms..it's definitely a flare for me.

Definitely some foods can cause you more discomfort, and digestive enzymes or probiotics are what you should consider...although both can cause discomfort as well until you get used to them or change when you take them..etc.

Are you not on any rectal meds? If you are..which ones?

Ha ha ha. Spluxa. You are right. Tell your hubby that these loud sounds are not any band playing inside your tummy or global warming. Did you read this article, the Kangaroos in Austrailia have been found to create global warming and you know by what - because they have been farting a lot. Now the government has come out with a dietary plan as well as a particular computer chip which is fixed on the kangaroos to save environment. I don't mean all of us with UC have to go for that chip. smurf devil confused . As I told you these are enzymes/bile juices reacting with bleeding ulcers which creat a funny sound. At times it s nothing but acidity. Have some anti acidic. BTW why does your bubby need to hear the funny sound. Tell him to switch on his MP3 instead. Cheers. INfact I used to fix a walkman on my tummy during my worst days to avoid such sounds.

Dear Kheal
don't worry these are quite common side effects of asacol or hydrocortisone enema. Infact what you can do is you can use some ointment/gel like metronidazole gel/Metrogyl or even a cold cream would do before inserting the enema tube inside you. In so far as retention enema is concerned. You must relax while taking enema. Put sleep on left side leg - as mostly UC is on left side. Put a pillow under your bum and legs so that your bum is tilted as it would help the medicine to travel down to your colon. After taking enema. Just relax and lie in that position for at least half an hour. You would realise that the urge to rush to loo would go off and you would be in  a position to retain enema much longer. BTW have you try foam enema. One can retain them for hours. At least I could. I have tried all of them. So feel free to ask anything and everything on this issue. Cheers

I'm still dealing with bloating and gas 6 days after my colonoscopy. But I was having gas on my stomach before the colonoscopy. My upper gut feels so tight. I do not know what to do to get rid of that problem. Gas X helps temporarily but not for long. Drives me crazy.
Diagnosed with left sided UC in sigmoid colon and rectum 1986.
Put on Azulfidine 2 X 3 a day and Rowasa enemas 60mg.
Have been pretty much in remission overall other than a few flares over the past 21 years.
Medicine changed to Asacol 400mg 2 pills X3 times a day. Taken off all meds in 2004.
Diagnosed with acid reflux 2005. Put on Protonix 40mg.
Have been using Canasa 1000mg suppositories nightly since January 2007.
Was put back on Asacol 400mg 2 pills 2X a day in July 2007 maintenance.
