I researched and found lots of great (and maybe not so great) info on prednisone and 6MP for maintenance.
After exhausting all the other better-for-you medications, I am now on prednisone - 40 mg. one week, then 30 and 20 - then call doctor.  He mentioned 6MP to maintain remission (should I ever get there).  At what point woudl that be added?  I am day 4 on prednisone, feeling good, symptoms certainly better, etc.  Affecting my vision the most since I have starting of cataracts and corneal transplants - hope that improves!
Would suppositories be good?  I have mostly rectal symptoms, etc.  I have used Canasa, Rowasa, and hydrocortisone.  Could not tolerate!

Please any info would be appreciated!

It depends on the doctor when they want to start you on 6mp. Typically though, they start you on 6mp at the same time as pred or when you do a slow taper from a steroid dependancy. 6mp takes a long time to build up in your system - 3months to a year. Have you tried hydrocortisone suppositories in the past?

No - just the hydrocortisone enemas and they made the bleeding and pain a LOT worse in 12 days.  The doc left my prescription directions as 20 mg. for two weeks after one week each of 40 and 30 - then call.   Maybe that is when he will consider the 6MP.  He is very hesitant to put me on anything more - stronger - because of my reaction to all mesalamine medications AND the fact thatheconsiders my case "mild to moderate" with only mild up colonfrom scope. If I could take mesalamine medications I would be in remission now - I know it.  They started to help and then I got very sick from side effects.

YES - doing great on prednisone.  Last two days no blood (or I couldn't see any - that is what counts), formed stools, 3 a day but ok.  Little gas with cramping but so much better.  Joints feels so good (my arthritis and bad knees), more energy but not too much.  I have been sleeping ok (don't do that good anyway). My eye surgeon told me I had starting of cataracts a month ago and I do believe my vision is getting little worse - keeping an eye (no pun intended) on that one.  I think I should be drinking more water (I hate it) and seems I have gained a lb. or so which I don't need but a trade off for now.  I have two more days of 40 mg. and then down to 30 mg. for a week.
