Hi ,  I am new to this site and am interested in sharing experiences with Probiotics .
What kinds are effective ?  What results have been experienced?
Thank you in advance for any advise you can give.

For me, Probiotics helped the most when I mixed the Probiotic powder with a small amount of warm water and put the mixture up my butt every time I had diarrhea. I did this with my last flare.

I buy Probiotics from the drug store, nothing fancy.

Mine has 50 billion of various live bacteria, so it has to be kept refrigerated. Those are the best. I buy it from my Naturopath or from the organic food store, where it is sold out of a refrigerator.

I've never tried making an enema out of them, but it would seem to make sense!
49 year old female attorney, diagnosed UC/pancolitis 1985, no surgery but much suffering.
Asacol/5ASA 6x400 mg maintenance for 20+ years; use prednisone & Rowasa for flares.
August 2008 sought care of naturopathic doctor. Food sensitivity test showed wheat/gluten, other intolerances; started diet without gluten, soy, dairy, tomato etc. Replete$$ probiotic powder, then Forte, now a stronger one (50 billion). Doing much better, but still having some bad days.

i've tried a few different types...i'm on a few drugs so i can't really say for sure if i've noticed a difference.
But I did try VSL#3 which a lot of people seem to like.
I think for me it was too rough and made me feel worse.

I take powerdophilus by Country Life.  I purchase it over the line....200 capsules for $17.88 which included shipping.  I take 2 a day and keep them refrigerated.  Not sure if they are keeping me in remission or it's a combination of medications and the probiotics.

Update 11/03/08...finally in remission!!  Hope I don't jinx myself.  Off the prednisone since 11/01/ see if I can stay off for longer than two weeks.  Other meds: 6MP (75 mgm), colazal (6 per day), Benicar and Toprol (high blood pressure meds), Probiotic (2 per day), fish oil capsule and multi-vitamin and calcium with vitamin D.
