Just started taking a probiotic, how long does it take to feel it working?

I am trying to see if this will help to get me into my first remission and want to know how long I should expect it to go into effect before I get discouraged and think it's not working.

When I mix the contents of a Probiotics pill with warm water and put the mixture up the butt, then I notice the effects right away. It slows down my bowl movements and reduces the inflammation. Not by much though. It's a gradual process.

If I take them orally, then it's harder to see the effects. I've seen an improvement in my digestion and bowel movements since I've been taking them (about two or three months). How much is due to diet and how much to Probiotics, I don't know.

Diagnosed w/ UC Dec 06 (also have IBS)
Currently in remission

Lexapro (for stress)
Probiotics and Vitamins (a whole bunch of them)
Anti-inflammatory foods: turmeric, seaweed, garlic...
Avoid: anything with high-fructose corn syrup, foods high in fructose, artificial sweeteners
Previous treatments: Fecal transplantation (worked), Prednisone (stopped working), Colazal (stopped working), Asacol (stopped working)

Try for about 8 months. Experiment with different strains and different dosages and see if you can lower your refined sugar, fructose sweet anything intake as well. It doesnt work simply by shoving bacteria in your colon theres a lot more going on in there. Undigested big molecules of sugar are the worst and will feed probiotics competition, anti-biotics will kill all bacteria good and bad.

If you want to give up very quick, ask yourself why we dont ever give up sugar? What I learned is that everything food wise I loved to do and every habit I made was ultimately bad for my colon. Had to rethink everything.
Off of 5-ASA (6 years) and 1-day minor flareup since probiotics started.

Probiotics 18 strains (vsl#3 + N.F. Ultimate multi probiotic + Trophic Acidophilus Plus + Nature's Way P. Reuteri + Florastore S. Boulardii) - 500 billion per day. No sugar, Oatmeal in the morning.
L-glutamine, elm powder, vit b & folic acid, 5 g vitamin C, vit D, vit E, Calcium+Magnesium
