Hey, thanks for posing the question about Remicade. What led me to Remicade is that at the time of my dx, I had a very busy life and was up for a promotion. My late husband had been dx'd with UC about 1 1/2 years before me, so I watched him with all the trials of the different meds, so when I went to the GI, I told him that I wanted whatever it was that would get me into remission the fastest. After trying different meds for 6 months such as Asacol, Pred, etc, it was evident that I wasn't going to have a remission any time soon, and I was so very sick. Since my husband was barely working at the time (for different reasons than UC) I knew I was the sole breadwinner. My late husband tried Remicade with pretty good results, so I asked the doc to let me try it, and we gave it a whirl. I've never looked back and it's the best decision I could have made at the time. I've been having infusions for almost four years now (where has the time gone?) and I go every eight weeks. I feel great; haven't had any bleeding or mucous since I started. I have energy, although sometimes the UC creeps up on me and I have a "hit the wall" type of day, so I just have learned to take it easy on those days. I'm not a "take it easy" type of person, so it's hard for me to do, but really, it's good to take a lazy day every once in while. Other than that, I haven't had many problems. The Biotin/B-12 is good for energy and the Biotin part helps with my hair and nails. Red had mentioned this years ago, and I've found it to be very beneficial to me. Hope this helps!

Hi Coprhead, and welcome to HealingWell! My story is a bit different than others; I actually had results the next day. Not to be too disgusting, but I remember waking up and feeling like I had some energy and then wham, I got the urge and out came one big long bm...really it was crazy. But no blood, no nothing. It was the best day I had had in a long time. I had energy and felt so much better. This is unusual; some folks can take up to three infusions before they start seeing a difference.

I've been on Remicade about as long as Carol.  It took me about 3 infusions to see a difference.  But I was also using Colazal and Rowasa enemas.  Since then - smooth sailing...knock wood!

Thanks so much!  I know my GI doc is considering something for maintenance if/when the prednisone works for me.  Looks like it is working but, of course, I cannot stay on it forever (I feel so good- wish I could).  So, I am reading and learning and hope to have an educated discussion with him about the next step.  I know he mentioned 6MP. I am pretty sure my insurance will pay for any of these medications and/or treatments.
