When I take Canasa daily, everything is OK.
When I switched to Asacol 2X3 per day w/o Canasa, blood appears....
This kind of makes me crazy, should I increase the amount of Asacol? Seems it doesn't work as well as Canasa.
Is this stage an active stage? What do you guys mean "remission"?
I am asking kind of naive quesitons....Hmmmm
Diagnosed with UC in whole rectum Oct/2008 by colonscopy
Cause of checking: bleeding everytime went to wash room
Put on Canasa 1000mg 1 per day at bedtime (14 days)
Three days after Canasa, bleeding stopped.
Then Asacol 2*3 daily.
A month later, bleeding began......
15th/Dec/2008     Canasa  1000mg  1 perday at bedtime
bleeding stops after 2 days..
26th/Jan/2008      change Canasa to Asacol   2 * 3 daily

You're flaring, and it might be a tad higher than what the Canasa can reach).

As's not quite enough med for the rectum I don't think.

Consider to use the retention enemas..Rowasa if you're in the US....or maybe use the Canasa twice daily.

Why are you stopping the Canasa?...
The oral and rectal 5ASA meds should be used together.

From reading your post and your signature, it appears that Canasa works for you and Asacol doesn't. Why did you stop the Canasa? If it works, just stay on that and forget the Asacol!
Symptoms began in November 2008, ~4 weeks after giving birth to my son.
Eased for ~3 weeks in December, possibly b/c of probiotic use?
Returned in January 2009 (with a vengeance), diagnosed with pancolitis on January 30.
Currently taking Asacol (400mg 4 pills 3x daily), Rowasa nightly, Culturelle probiotic, and Zoloft (25 mg).

As others have said if the Canasa works for you why go off it? Also - you can't just stop them cold turkey. You have to wean yourself off of them. Any reason why the doc tells you to stop the Canasa when you switch to Asacol? Why not use both - many of us do that.

AND be happy that you can tolerate mesalamines and that they work for you.  Wish I could!  Those are the "safer" medications - don't stop them.
